This British remake of 1974's "The Longest Yard" is set in a rough-and-tumble British prison, where murderers, thieves and assorted madmen are locked away. One inmate is about to lead them all in the ultimate battle of their degenerate lives -- but no one could have guessed it would be a soccer match! (Paramount Classics)

Bit of a nothing film. Was neither one thing or the other. Not brutal enough to be a brutal film and not funny enough to be a funny film.

Lousy prison film but some nice bits of football/hooliganism filmmaking. But this should be about Monk (the arrogant and psycho keeper) instead.

Mean Machine is a certain guilty pleasure of mine. There's no doubting the array of problems with this film. It's a poor remake, it's a completely unoriginal sports story, tonally it's all over the place and it's filled with cliches throughout. But as a fan of the characters from British films like Lock, Stock & Snatch, I just enjoy this group of familiar faces. Most of the acting is much to be desired, but Jason Statham in particular is hilarious as the Monk and the final match is great fun.

It's never great at anything but it has it's moments. I played goalie in high school and Statham was living out our wildest dreams.

Probably gets by on the charm of its cast, Jones again confirming that he was a better character than professional footballer. Features some likeable turns by the likes of Statham, Hemmings, Brown and Gee. It's a shame the actual football game at the end doesn't really flow properly, and as a whole the film is a bit slight (Scum it isn't), but this was a reasonably entertaining diversion. Bonus points for Sally Phillips.

Despite some genuine wit, this crowd pleaser is filled with too many cliches.

It's a pretty good movie but it just can't compare to the original Burt Reynold film. It was nice to see it done with Football "soccer" instead of American Football but that aside I guess it just comes don to how much you like British comedies (which I generally don't). Watch the original then watch this, it's much better then the American Adam Sandler remake.

Thought it was a mess. Never decides what it wants to be and it escaped my memory much faster than expected.

By-the-numbers soccer remake of The Longest Yard that succeeds on the strength of the cast.

My love of football (when it's entertaining) and everything British leads me to perhaps like this more than I should. It's pretty good in many aspects though, if a bit cliche.. Far, far better than The Longest Yard from 2005, anyway. Always liked Vinnie Jones, too.

I wanted to like this, but it wasn't that great. The final game was fantastic, but not worth sitting through the first half to get to.

Adam Sandler destroys another movie by playing Adam Sandler. And even *that* is one-dimensional. If you must, rent the original.
