Mechanic: Resurrection is an unnecessary sequel that feels completely disconnected from its predecessor. The Mechanic was dull and took itself far too seriously but in fairness this sequel does attempt to be more fun. But the brainlessly enjoyable set pieces cannot salvage what is otherwise an underwhelming and forgettable action film. Jason Statham & Jessica Alba are an unconvincing pair and the thin plot is boring. I think it's about time Jason Statham films stopped getting cinematic releases.

It's all rather silly. Jason Statham does that thing he does punching and kicking and blowing up stuff but mostly it's meh. I have to wonder, do secret top assassins really hide all their goodies in shipping containers and under creaky floorboards?

I'm not sure why people hate this movie so much. It isn't bad so much as it's not good, I'd call it exceedingly average. If you take a generic action film from the late '80s-early '90s add some '00s CGI you'd get this.

Only five years earlier Statham had a relatively generic, but relatively watchable outing with the original, but this one fell off a steep cliff before coming out. The miraculous thing is that it's got still got Statham, the budget wasn't gutted, and it's got a few other big names too. It's hard to say why this one sucks so much more, but it's got a definite low budget action flick feel to it while still being a pretty big budget movie. Tommy Lee Jones, though, had a pretty sweet character.

There's not really any point in critiquing this at all. It might be a little worse than your usual Jason Statham fare, but I look on the bright side. I get to: 1) pad my below-average Criticker reviews, 2) laugh at plot absurdities, 3) build my appreciation for Donnie Yen, and 4) still be entertained by some action. Since there's no shortage of movies that could accomplish this I'm not sure why I picked this one, other than it was right there at the time.

Mechanic: Resurrection is a sequel I'm confident in saying that very few people wanted. Even the people who liked the first movie were likely satisfied that protagonist survived and could go on to do other things - things that didn't need to be filmed. Jason Statham was brought back to do a bland action movie with only the barebones when it comes to plot, characters, or themes. It has a couple of standout moments, but they're buried inside a movie that's too dull to warrant your time or money.

He's never been one for dialogue but this was lower than usual. And the shaky cam action was pretty pitiful too. They even screwed up what should have been the best sequence (the high rise pool) which was a really clever idea, but the GGI execution was pathetic.

Mechanic: Resurrection is the Donkey Kong of the cinematic world. There's not much of a plot, and what there is doesn't make a lot of sense. But there is a girl to save, a bad guy to beat ... and a whole lot of obstacles to overcome in order to reach them. (pluggedin.com)

Enjoyably silly and brawny actioner is likely to be more fun for those with a soft spot for the Bronson/Norris subgenre of action films - fast paced with absurdly macho confrontations, and overblown stunt sequences (the rooftop swimming pool a particular highlight). Also fun to see Jones letting it all hang out, clad in an outlandish kimono and clearly channelling his own role in UNDER SIEGE.

The sequel to the 2011 film brings a cosmopolitan aura and a touch of "Mission: Impossible" to the game. One could argue it's punching a tad above its weight and it shows on the script, which doesn't bother to explain anything despite setting up Bishop's missions as nigh on impossible, and the pacing, which, unaided by the non-existent character development, is a little slow in the first part. Nevertheless, the action is particularly entertaining, competently made and fun. Also: Tommy Lee Jones.

These movies aren't BAD, but they're not worth seeing either. There are some good action sequences, and I enjoy Statham in action roles, even if the movies themselves aren't always good. That's about it really: this might appeal to those who just want a silly action film, but this one wasn't good enough to recommend.

Jessica Alba makes this less bland than the first Statham one, but not by much. Bad cgi all over, why not skip those shots?

The plot and characterization is worse and stupider than the first, but the action better shot, slicker and more fun, so overal on par with its predecessor.

This is really a Netflix/Cable quality film, but as an montage of action sequences containing really bad CGI and god awful writing and one liners, it succeeds in every cheesy way possible! No joke, I know this thing is the equivalent of something you find in cat's litter box every morning, but if my generation has taught me anything, is that we appreciate these kind of things because they don't stop putting them out, and nothing screams masculinity like Statham and Alba for 100 min.

The first film in the series is a lot better than this one. This one is to over the top for the sake of being outrageous. The script is really bad with horrendous dialogue. There are some fun action sequences but that is not enough for me to recommend the film.

A ridiculous and convoluted excuse for action setpieces, this unnecessary sequel is a by the numbers action film that actually holds your hand all the way through and is more interesting for how stupid it is than anything else. A baffling use of Tommy Lee Jones and a waste of Michelle Yeoh, too. And the romance plot is bizarre because he just meets her and already she's the love of his life? Please. This movie is better off not taking up any space in your brain.

It's like watching somebody else playing a video-game. Extremely boring. And a very bad video game as well. Just watch a Van Damme movie or something instead.

This movie does nothing but solidify that Jason Statham is probably the most boring actor working today when it comes creating dynamic characters. I am not sure why this movie really needed to something at all. It proves 2 things. Statham and a 2X4 have the same range and movies no longer require a plot to be produced. Sorry to Tommy Lee Jones for whom I have a tone of respect but this movie was a steaming pile of........ (The last word is very interchangable with words like crap and garbage)

Generic action in beautiful places. Turn your brain off and take in the spectacular violence. It's NOT a film for talking, cool music or logic. Pure kill 'em madness with Jason Statham.... and Jessica Alba to heat up the other head.

Dennis Gansel likes Mission: Impossible, doesn't he. :> Has its plot holes and other issues. Also has good performances and fun action. All in all much better than I exptected. And much better than the first one.

At first it's a bit bewildering how awkwardly amateurish and stupid the writing... the whole thing... is; but luckily after the first 30 minutes (or was it longer, it felt longer) the emphasis shifts from setting up the "emotion" of the "story" to the action set pieces. The action does benefit from the decent production values and decent choreographing. I wouldn't take it too seriously if people say Resurrection is an "average" action flick; its way below average.

Watched this purely for the +1 to my total number of ratings. I expected it to be mediocre, and yet I was still disappointed. It’s cool how they had the budget for explosions and exotic locations, but they should’ve spent more to get better writers. Classic lowest common denominator sequel bullshit. Fight choreography is predictably incoherent as well. Only reason Jessica Alba appears is because they couldn’t afford Michelle Yo for more than 2 scenes.
