The story follows two men who immigrate to Italy from Africa. Their journey is perilous. They are robbed at gun point, capsized in the Mediterranean sea, people die, rescued & detained by border guards. They arrive to destitute & homeless conditions with meager opportunities to obtain legal status. A hostile culture leads to protests, riots & the violent conflict. Performances were mostly flat. Lots of shaky camera footage. Uneven pacing. Pointless side stories. Rather weak ending.

What an uninspiring way to tell a story.

Mediterranea (2015) is a very topical film showing us the life of African immigrants in Europe. Mostly a positive portrayal with a sympathetic lead. Still struggles to really pinpoint what it's trying to communicate. And that's something I'm realizing more. The cellphone generation has taken over the film making. As disconnected with their characters as they are with themselves living their life in their cellphones, unable to communicate proper human emotion or deliver a coherent narrative.
