Morbidity meets cheese in this perversely overlong abomination. Hopkins, the good Sir that he is, commits to a legitimately great performance but when the good scenes with him are interspersed with ones where Pitt tastes peanut butter for the first time or switches to an Jamaican accent to address a black woman there's just no saving it. The whole thing comes off as absolutely ludicrous and the ending will surprise no-one. I might be overrating this on account of Forlani.

The ponderous "Meet Joe Black" represents what happens when someone has the brilliant idea to make a 3-hour melodrama about Death with fish-out-of-water comedy elements. Brad Pitt is Death but Anthony Hopkins is still scarier, without even trying. I think he's a respectable actor (Pitt), but here he's out of his depth. Even worse is Forlani who gets all the clunky lines and engages in a romance with Pitt which is neither believable nor compelling. The whole thing is a painful slog.

A very unusual romance film. It unfolds slowly which may put off some people but I found the pacing to be just right. Brad Pitt is captivating the Grim Reaper who is, obviously, inexperienced with living. It's just such an usual take on the romance genre, which I normally do not enjoy, and I love it.

I don't know if it's Netflix or if the audio dynamics really were as shit as me either not hearing the dialogue or being ear-stabbed by the score. Anywho. This 180 minute flick could've easily been cut into 90 minutes. The movie would've only benefitted with making some of the needlessly long scenes better-paced and maybe drop some of the more repetitive scenes. While at it, cast someone more likeable as the romantic lead instead of serial-killer-vibing Pitt.

I was on a first date when we saw this in the theater. When the accident happens at the beginning I laughed out loud in an otherwise silent theater. There was not a second date. I'll ultimately say it's worth it if only because the character of Death loves peanut butter. That tickles me.

You know, this is actually not a bad movie at all. Pitt's grim reaper is portrayed really well, with the right balance of naivete and wisdom, innocence and menace. Hopkins is good as usual, and his interplay with Pitt is well done. It's actually a really interesting movie with a good mood, but the biggest detractor is the overdone aspect of the romance. It doesn't ruin it by any means, but death's character was far more interesting than the romance. Also I'm a bad person but lol at the crash

This was more boring that watching paint dry, but it was so long at least I managed to put 2 coats on. The idea that Susan would fall for the original "body", and then fall for the same body after a complete charismectomy is stretching it. That being said, we were then asked to believe she would fall for the original guy at the end; make up your bleedin' mind, girl! Like everybody else, I loved the crash; it could have ended there, and I would have been happy as believability died at that point

I love the premise, but the film is way too long and focuses on some uninteresting aspects of it. A lot of the dialogue is incredibly cheesy, but a strong performance by Hopkins makes many of the dumber lines heartbreaking.

At its heart, a powerful and moving meditation on life, death and mortality, centered on a terrific performance from Hopkins. A shame that all of the material not in support of this plotline is basically worthless – Pitt may not deliver a *bad* performance, but his character(s)' lack of internal logic or consistent purpose make him seem lost at sea. Subplot involving a hostile corporate take-over should have hit the floor at the rough edit. A still interesting effort made essential by Hopkins.

Good movie, terrible title. There really is no way to write a synopsis of the film without it coming off ridiculously schmaltzy and saccarine, and the story definitely is that. I mean, Death falls for Claire Forlani, and through her love, comes to appreciate life. That's as schmaltzy as they come. But the cast is loaded with quality character actors, and the movie is a lot more interesting than you'd think. Still, just a terrible, terrible title.
