mum wanted to go see meg 2 (yes, 0% on RT meg 2) at the weekend instead of barbie or oppenheimer, and... i sort of felt the same way at this point. the zeitgeist is exhausting, i'm all about the shitegeist. that said, my planned project for next year is to catch up with everything i've missed since COVID kicked off, which is pretty much everything, so stay tuned! p.s. reminder that fans of pre-sellout wheatley MUST watch oram's AAAAAAAAH! and leigh's NUTS IN MAY and clarke's PENDA'S FEN.

Piranha 3D but make it 2D, PG13 and about megalodons instead.

Maybe the most aptly named movie of the year, because boy does this hit the bottom of the ocean and come up smelling like dead fish. I didn't love the first one but at least it wasn't lame. This shit is LAME. Absolutely no fun at all. "Plot Armor: The Movie", in all the worst ways. Answers the question "what would Sharknado be like if it wasn't made by The Asylum?" Answer: it would still suck. When I realized that they couldn't even manage to entice Ruby Rose to come back, I knew we were doomed.

I have no idea if this is a good movie, which one can apply to the first movie as well. I just know I was entertained and I left the theater feeling satisfied, which is all that really matters.

Uncle Jiuming is very charming, and it's more-or-less fun, but for a film with three 'rex-devouring megasharks, a genuine kraken, and a death count in the dozens, this film holds absolutely no tension at all - and a movie that doesn't even bother to ask for investment inevitably comes across as boring, even if Jason Statham uses a shark as a jetski ramp to do a barrel-roll while throwing an explosive javelin at another shark.

Meg 2 is the classic monster-disaster-action movie, and it leaves me wondering why these things suck worse than ever. Compared to Marvel pro war military industrial complex propaganda the Chinese nationalism of this film is straight up boring. A movie about a prehistoric mega shark that's boring, and dumb. just skip forward past every scene without a Meg.

Mildly entertaining. But awful. Jaws meets Jurassic Park - but the worst of both.

This movie almost has the trash b-movie aesthetic with a A-level budget. There are moments of dumb fun and some great underwater set-pieces.

It's not a terrible movie, but it's also a fairly uninspired one that doesn't offer us anything new outside of a few cool visual giant shark moments. The characters aren't very developed so it's difficult to care when they are put into peril. Also, having the giant sharks take a back seat to standard run-of-the-mill greedy illegal diamond miners was a poor choice. I also thought the CGI looked surprisingly low-budget in some of the scenes, considering how much money was spent on this.

What is the point of making these Meg movies and only giving the titular shark five minutes of screen-time in each one?

Meg 2 is merely a mediocre sequel to cheesy (albeit somewhat enjoyable) popcorn flick. The 1st half of the film (in the trench) feels a little grittier and darker, and I was totally on board for that. The 2nd half (around Fun Island) dives headfirst into slapstick action, and the film becomes a little worse off for it. The most interesting aspect of the film is the flipped racial bias where Yanks are the megalomaniacal CEO & lecherous tourists, and the Chinese the heroes & victims.

Nah, not as bad as they are saying, but also not nearly as fun as the first. It takes forever to start -- the descent part is so boring -- and there is just not enough meg material for us to chew -- they leave everything for the third act and shit happens just way too fast for us to enjoy. Action stuff doesn't deliver what we expect -- some cheap thrills and a bunch of scenes of megs eating people. Funniest part is when the credits roll and you discover Ben Wheatley directed this.

Doesn't hide that it's only about the sea action, for the plot was rubbish. But to be honest, it was the only reason I watched this, so their market analysts were not wrong when they greenlit this.

Absolutely fantastic movie! Highly recommended watching it and I'm sure; you're gonna love it! Everything about this is incredible! The first film wasn't that bad but this one has less gore and more meg scenes. Will watch again!

It's a b movie and knows that , but some sharknado level CGI was unanticipated. Ran out of money halfway through filming and just shrugged. Has its moments that make ya laugh , but mostly pretty meh and cringy. A generous 4.9

Just when you thought they couldn't go any lower...honestly, MEG 2 isn't a total wash, in spite of a dull and nearly unwatchable first half. Things pick up when the film reaches the stupidly/aptly named "Fun Island" and becomes the mind-numbing action farce it should've been from the start.

Look, they're trying really hard by throwing even more stuff at the wall, like more sea creatures (which makes sense since the sea is vast). But it's diminishing returns. These movies remind me a lot of how Fast and the Furious went. It's basically about some people doing something that isn't action hero shit, but then becoming action heroes, and I know it's early on, but it's like they felt they HAD to outdo the ridiculousness of the first. It's kinda fun but very forgettable.

Remember all that cool stuff in the trailer like the octopus taking out a hot tub full of people? Well, you have to sit through 90 minutes of BS in order to see those scenes and you just don't care by that point. This thing should have been a schlocky B-movie. What we got was not that.
