Pretty entertaining in the beggining, but by the minute 45 you only wanna say "Woody, we get the point, make this end".

Works far better as a trailer than as a six and a half hour long movie. Or at least one that feels that long.

Great idea, Great Beginning. Sadly, it doesn't work. At least Radha Mitchell made a great work and deserved more raves. The other actors also made a good work

At one point I checked the time thinking that the movie was entering the third act and was going to be wrapping up soon, and I swear to God I was 27 minutes in.

I really only liked the comedy half of the movie. The other half didn't do anything for me.

Ferrell shines, but 'tragic side' actors mostly wallow in melodrama.

Eithei way, comedy or drama, is a powerful story really nicely told.

The problem here is that the comedy side of the story isn't very funny. Allen doesn't seem capbable of returning to his former comedic heights.

If you remove the entirety of the dramatic storyline except for Chloë Sevigny and Chiwetel Ejiofor who you insert into the comedic storyline (Sevigny to replace Mitchell as the Melinda character and Ejiofor to replace Daniel Sunjata as the Billy Wheeler character) then you have a much better film. I do like the ongoing joke about Hobie playing his on-stage/on-screen characters with a limp (à la Guillaume Depardieu in 'Ne touchez pas la hache').

Stilted and dull. It's hard to relate to or care about any of the characters. I don't think the concept works as well as Allen thought it would.

Will Allen's life be looked at as a comedy or a tragedy? Certainly, like the tale of Melinda, many of Woody's more publicized events have been assessed by the public in both ways at the same time. However, given the lack of once mighty prowess he possessed early on, there is no comedy in seeing him struggle so much to make worthwhile films anymore.

The beginning of Woody Allen's latest upswing. It has a few problems but Ferrel really fits Allen's style of comedy and the characters are interesting.

Kind of just serves as a vehicle for Woody to outline his process when breaking ground on an idea for a film. I'm sure it was much more interesting for him to write than me to watch.

It is as if the actors have never seen a Woody Allen film before. The writing makes up for the poor performances.

A neat idea, awfully executed. It's lazy (note how Allen cuts out the bit where the story that’s the basis for the comedy and tragedy sections is told), has an awkward, unnecessary framing device, plenty of exposition and the two tales never tie together in any interesting way. The tragedy half is dreadful: miserable nonsense that lacks any emotional punch and ends up feeling completely vacuous. The comedy half is at least watchable, though painfully obvious and for the most part not that f

Interestingly enough, Steve Carell is the only person in this movie who can deliver Allen's dialog well, since he has such a minor role, you can mark this one as a movie to avoid.

All the ingredients are there for another Allen masterpiece but, sadly, the end result never quite delivers. The plot of each story is good but when played out side by side they detract from each other. Except for Ferrell, who's out of his depth, the cast are all good and, as I've come to expect from Allen, the dialogue dialogue is wonderful.

The comedy isn't really funny and the drama isn't really dramatic. I found myself constantly wondering which of the two "versions" I was supposed to be watching, before I started wondering when it would all end.

Good. A group o friends discuss a story over dinner, each of them offering his own take on the events. This is a rather tepid comedy with Radha Mitchell's questionable acting skills being the weakest link. Not Woody's best work. Catch it on cable.

A clever concept that doesn't really work in practice. You get into the comedy, and then it annoys you by switching to the drama. Then you get interested in the drama and get jerked back to the comedy. And again there's an actor (Will Ferrell) who's basically a surrogate Woody. I'd rather have the genuine article.

I enjoyed this one but I can see why people don't like it. Will Ferrell works perfectly in a Woody Allen movie and Amanda Peet is pretty awesome too. Now that I think about it, this cast is fucking awesome.

I enjoyed this movie but it feels like something is missing. I feel same in many Woody Allen's movies but somehow it never bugs me. It's probably I like Woody Allen's way to tell story. And the ending was cool.

The premise is interesting, and it comes together nicely at the end, but the road to get there feels really long and dull. And pretentious. And annoying. Like a lot of Allen's films.

Another Woody Allen film where irritating people sit at dinner parties in apartments and have intellectual conversations about relationships and the arts, without ever having to worry about jobs, house maintenance or children. It has its witty moments but I find myself not really caring too much about the fate of all the players, tragic or comic.

The writers of this are absolutely terrible. Was it Woody Allan? Regardless, it is an exercise in intellectual masterbation. I could barely get through the first 30 minutes, and thankfully gave up on it. Despite having Radha Mitchell, I could just not bare another inane minute of this horrible pretentious dialog.

I am a fan of Woody Allen's modern films. This one ranks below Blue Jasmine and Magic in the Moonlight but above Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I would place it fairly close to Midnight in Paris.

Woody steps out of his comfort zone and delivers an "idea" movie. Both segments have some misses but are engaging enough to drive the film through its concept. Ferrell, in my opinion, is perfectly cast.

Will Ferrell does a good Woody Allen impression. Anyways, I thought this was close to great. I was expecting the genres to be contrasted, but instead they cross over very well, saying some really interesting things regarding the comedy of tragic situations, and vice versa. I can't think of any other director pulling this off.
