Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes

You get to hear more of Nilsen in his own words, and some of the interviewees provide new angles on his crimes, but there's little here if you're already familiar with these murders. The dramatised mini-series with David Tennant is more compelling, and other documentaries on the subject provide further detail - although this is a short and sweet overview if you know nothing about the man.

It's oddly fascinating hearing a serial killer talk about his victims, the way you and I would talk about sports or the weather.

The sound design is particularly brilliant, and the tapes themselves give a harrowing account of how serial killer Dannis Nilsen perceived the world. But what really hits home is the larger social aspect of life as a homosexual in England at that time. Sorry for the pun, but the end comments on the matter are killer.

Morale of the story: Never go to London.
