Perhaps the scariest IMDB goof submission ever done Surgeons cut the stomach of an alive boy without any bleeding. Who wrote this ....dig up their backyard ASAP. "Last week we put liquid paper on a bee... and it... died.." Finding out your kids autopsy was done by doctors dressed like war criminals, I would've preferred KISS but that's a much dumber movie.

Hard to rate, as there's historical value in bringing attention to Japan's war crimes. The director did seem to genuinely want to do so rather than this be exploitative. But the film itself isn't interesting outside of the infamous scenes, which include (as far as my googling reveals) a real child autopsy; a degloving scene in which the actress held real severed arms; hundreds of rats burned alive; and possibly a cat eaten by rats. Cannibal Holocaust hasn't got shit on this moral quandary.

The birth of Cat III HK films, yet this one does not belong grouped with the sleazy, sex filled stuff that followed. Tun Fei Mou was trying to make a statement, a movie depicting the horror of WWII and human experimentation, and the indoctrination of the Japanese that enabled these things. Viewing thirty years later, the low budget, the poor acting, and the crappy production scream schlock, and the gore is often laughable. It's a movie that outlived it's message, but there are worse.

As an historical docudrama it's pretty uninteresting save for a mild sense of "I can't believe this really happened." As a piece of shock-sploitation, it fails there as well for the most part. The majority of the gore is too fake looking to be disturbing. The child autopsy is the exception, and is actually one of the sicker things I've seen. But one single scene isn't enough to make this movie live up to its notorious reputation. And I deducted some points for animal cruelty.
