Once again I am in the vast minority here in liking this little flick, It probably helps that I am a curler and Canadian. There are lots of inside jokes and how can you complain when Nielsen is in here doing his thing. It's just a light and entertaining film.

I thought that the world had pretty much agreed on freezing out the pig-squeeling "sport" Curling in an attempt to make it disappear! I was wrong...

This movie really tries to be funny as evidenced by the cast including Leslie Nielson, but many of the jokes are subtle or just don't evoke much laughter. There is also a romantic side to this story, and Molly Parker was great in that. As for the Curling sport, I was moderately amused by the silliness of it. Also Peter Outerbridge's character was amusing, as were some of the other antics. There were a few stupid characters. Not a complete waste of time, but mostly forgettable.

You'd think it'd be a tough ask to make a hit comedy/drama based on the sport of curling... and on this evidence you'd be absolutely right. Paul Gross excels himself by stinking up the writing, directing and even the score, saving his worst for the star performance itself: his lead exhibiting about as much emotion as a dead pigeon throughout. Boring story, lifeless characters and not even one chuckle in sight. The 'climax' is head-slappingly awful too. I've seen worse, but not many.

What was this movie going for? Did it want to be a comedy or a drama about curling and girls? I think at the end of the movie I knew less about the characters than I did at the start. At least Molly Parker isn't bad in this, but maybe I'm blinded because I just really like Molly Parker.
