Serviceable thriller. Willis is subdued (with only one really good line) and Baldwin is B-movie slimy (though it's nice to see Bruce kick him for his nationalistic speech). Most of the cast is comparatively unknown and the plot/chase logistics and set piece violence are mainly pedestrian. Too little tension, too much cavalier risk-taking for too little story gain. Portrayal of autism sometimes lacks authenticity. Chicago is a fine visual backdrop, though. Bonus: NSA has actual cryptographers.

Just didn't have a lot to it. Bruce Willis was rock'n as always, but most of the situations were neither intense nor entertaining. Just not much.

A straightforward eugenics cull goes awry as bleeding-heart lefty Willis pokes his nose into government business. Support the president you socialist scum!

Recently re-watched, and I was scratching my head trying to come up with why I liked this when it came out, but then I remembered it was '98 and I was twelve. Avoid this movie, it's pretty boring.

If they could somehow combine this with "Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" or just release a "Bruce Willis Endangers Small Children" box set, I'd be the first in line. Take that, kid! Go Bruce!

I remember going to see this movie on a whim, and it turned out to be pretty good. It's nothing special, but I liked it.

While failing to deliver any truly mind bending stunts or action, Bruce is just likable dragging about a child, and for some reason I'm being dragged along. The characters are sympathetic, and seeing them dispatched dispassionately helps to gloss the dumb flashbacks, and maintains some hope everything will turn out horribly.

Fails to deliver any really impressive action and it fails to deliver impressive anything really. I haven't spoken to anyone that thinks of this movie more than "it's alright." It just feels bland.

I must've seen this at least 5 times on cable and I've forgotten every plot point by now. Other than the kid is autistic. And Alec Baldwin hams it. Besides those, I'm clueless.

A pretty daft cyber-thriller in which Bruce Willis emails in a bland performance as "FBI action guy" who has to look after "code cracking boy" while "evil trenchcoat assassin" hunts them down. The premise is nonsensical and the result is a pale shadow of Willis's more famous works. At least the boy anchors the movie with a simplistic yet effective autism performance, creating a father-mother-son dynamic which gives the vehicle a little emotional heart. Everything else is very, very average.

Such a Heart-broken sotry about an autistic boy who happens to find a top-secret phone number in a puzzle magazine. Bruce Willis is Brilliant in saving the young boys life. The little boy is very sweet. Once Again, the language is just too much for me.

This is retarded, and I'm not being cute because the movie's about an autistic boy. The boy doesn't understand the code he cracks, who cares? WHY DOES ALL OF THIS HAPPEN?! WHY?!

29/10/2011, seen it a couple of times, good acting of the autistic kid. Storyline isn't the best, and less credible as story unfolds, bruce willis action as usual (i care less).

Pretty pointless. It is boring and the "plot" doesn't make any sense. An autistic kid may know how to crack a secret code, but wouldn't understand if he did, nor be able to communicate it if he did understand it. Let the muderin' ensue.

Bruce Willis as a FBI who specializes in deep undercover. But when his current infiltration of a militia group goes sour at a botched bank robbery he gets demoted. While on assignment Willis is ordered to help out with a missing child whose parents seemingly dies But all is not what it seems when the child is discovered to be autistic and to have stumbled onto solving the most important secret the NSA has Mercury, the unbreakable code hiding the identities of all the undercover agents worldwide.

I have a friend who's mocked this film regularly ever since release, guessed I should actually watch it and get the joke. Story's complete bollocks, patchy cast too, the sound and soundtrack really help to emphasise how silly and wrong-headed it all is.

Peak Willis action flick is largely interchangeable with any other of his mid-tier 90s efforts, but distinguished by a pretty good (and surprisingly heartfelt) performance from its star, backed by a committed one from young Hughes; its portrait of autism is not going to win any sensitivity awards, but Becker keeps things moving at a snappy enough pace to not allow his audience to wonder too long over some plot holes and an ultimately redundant and shaggy-dog aspect of the tale it tells.

Gotta respect the production team for hiring a psychology expert to support Miko Hughes in his role as an autistic kid, not an easy role to pull through. But I feel they should've appointed also a script writing expert to help the writer(s), just w/ the basic stuff. Nice to watch bad formulaic films every now and then, though. Makes one acknowledge that there are also well crafted formulaic films out there, and that "formulaic" is actually a tough art to master.
