Merton

Like the inexhaustibly radical (read: historical) Ivan Illich, TM was taken to the woodshed for daring to hold his beloved church accountable for its acquiescence to capitalist domination and hypocrisy in remaining silent on the bomb while declaring abortion a mortal sin. Illich said see ya and began as stimulating and challenging a campaign of writing as any; Merton said this too shall pass and acquiesced himself. This film does an admirable job in illuminating that path of humility and love.
