What if Ocean's Eleven was remade by Terry Gilliam in France? You'd have Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Micmacs a Tire-Larigot", a zany caper film about society's outsiders sticking it to the man. Very strange, but ultimately quite likeable and with a good anti-gun message. A tart with a heart.

Not another "Amélie", but a funny little escapist film from Jeunet. Bonetto's production design and Nagata's cinematography are accomplished, as for the story, you'll either like it or love it. A fun experience.

I was thrilled with the stunning beginning, ingenious score (some parts were really hilarious), wonderful and colorful cinematography and the bizarreness of the characters, but still I did not buy the story. Some scenes were silly (in bad way) and the story's got some really weak interpretations. But it's Jean-Pierre Jeunet fantasy. I cannot give for it as low score as I wanted.

Nice to see Jeunet back in action. Vibrant colors and vivid characters, as could be expected from him. A cross between Amelie and Ocean's Eleven.

I was slightly put off by people saying this wasn't very much like Amelie, but then I saw the film. C'est fantastique.

The danger with Jeunet is always too much quirk, not enough charm. This one goes a bit too far on the quirk side. Although it's got a lot of clever up its sleeve, sometimes those little touches are done with just too much of a wink. It may also be that Dany Boon doesn't make a very compelling protagonist. Nonetheless, the movie packs enough off-kilter fun and shenanigans to be worthwhile. As political satire it doesn't really have any teeth, but as entertaining escapist fare, it does the trick.

Clever and impressive, but for this viewer, a good cinematic development would be the production of children's movies with higher expectations, that take the audience to be a little more grown-up (regardless of age). This movie seems to represent the opposite tendency: films intended for adults that treat the audience essentially, and increasingly, as children. A circus intended to delight the audience, filled with visual surprise, but no narrative surprises whatsoever, and very thin characters.

I really love Jeunet's style. Every single one of his movies blows me away with his amazing cinematography, he truly makes film "art" by the sheer gorgeousness of every shot. That being said, this story didn't knock my socks off like Amelie or Delicatessen did. I still found it an enjoyable amusing dark comedy (and I loved the silent film sensibilities that were prevalent throughout), but it didn't quite have the same punch some of his other scripts had.

Funny, clever, but as for the plot structure and the characters, some will argue that the movie doesn't follow through and deliver it's potential - but who caries! It has all the charm in the world - and this really caries it through, in spite of it's thin foundation. The film will either leave you feeling suicidal or uplifted.

I like jeunets style but can't say i was especially taken by this one. Maybe its because I've come to expect things so much more fantastical from him that this seemed to lack imagination.

You know, this is really not that much different from a dumb Hollywood action-comedy. The characters were just bland (and the relationships with the junkyard family) weren't established well. I had little interest in any of them. A big problem for me was the casting of Boon in the lead. I loved *Delicatessen* and enjoyed *Amelie* (I loved the look of *City of Lost Children), but this is nowhere close. Disappointing.

I wanted to like this a lot more than i did, but that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. camera work was brilliant, acting seemed to be pretty solid despite the french, and although the story was incomplete, it was enjoyable and entertaining. felt the plot could have either been less convoluted or the movie could have been 30 minutes longer. things just happen and they don't really explain how or give any set up plans. maybe a second viewing is necessary.

Jeunet is back with a beautiful movie that's full of funny ideas and a bunch of likeable characters. You can find all the great "tools" Jeunet uses when he make a movie (light, colors, musik, imaginative and funny situations, bizarre characters and a lot more). So it's not a wonder that in the end Micmacs sets an example against war mashines and the injustice of making profit with the dead. I guess no one would do that with so much charme and jauntiness like Jean-Pierre Jeunet..simply fantastic

"Micmacs is the logical next step in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's career, more or less completely doing away with narrative as a vital component and exalting mouse trap-style set pieces as a be-all end-all." - Nick Schager

Though Jeneut’s style is indulgent and excessive, his “let it all hang out” films are more enjoyable than his stabs at profundity – a flimsy plot is utilised as a clothes hanger for scenes and characters which don’t always make complete sense, but are galvanising in their distinct look and feel – it’s possible not to care much about what's happening and still get considerable enjoyment, though the lack of discipline leaves the final act absent an urgency which might have elevated this higher.

Good to see Jeunet still thinks you can just slap a yellow filter on a terrible plot with uninteresting characters and design a few iron chicken style gadgets and have everyone fellate you for your 'masterpiece'.

You can pretty much tell a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film just by looking at it. The cinematography & set design is always very similar. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that he has a distinctive style. Another thing that punctuates his films is wackiness. And this one is full of it. Wacky characters, wacky sets, wacky visual effects, wacky storyline... I wondered if sometimes it was obnoxiously wacky. But mostly, it was just fun. Recommended if you want something light-hearted and, well, wacky!

cute little movie. love Jean pierre Jeunet, basically the french tim burton. lots of fun stuff going on in this movie. one thing urks me though, and this is a spoiler, at the end they use a giant magnet to pull the car up and it pulls all the metal in the car to the roof, why doesn't this kill the main character? shouldn't the bullet still in his head be ripped through his brain killing him instantly? if that happened, I think I would have rated higher.

Quite good, fun film. Quite imaginative and funny, but in style it did remind me a bit of a children's film. Which isn't necessarily bad, but given the subject matter and general tone of the film it did feel slightly weird. In short: I quite enjoyed it.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet films are like bizarre fairy tales. In Micmacs, a young man, whose father dies while disarming a landmine and who himself is injured by a stray bullet, decides to destroy the two weapons manufacturers responsible. After loosing his job at a video store, he meets a group of misfits who have made themselves into a family that lives in a dump. Like all of Jeunet's films, this movie is loaded with surreal scenery that entices the viewer to want to pour over each moment of the film
