Mike Bassett: England Manager (2001)
The manager of England's national football unexpectedly succumbs to a heart attack, and suddenly the search is on for a replacement. Most people who seem qualified for the position have the good sense to turn it down, and so the responsibility falls to Mike Bassett, a scruffy and loud-mouthed lout whose claim to football fame is leading a previously undistinguished team to a league championship. A somewhat inept football manager takes England to the World Cup. Tomlinson is great as Bassett, whether he's yelling expletives at his own fans or eloquently reciting Kipling, and his staff and team, made up of morons and liabilities, offer constant amusement with a stream of farcical incidents. There are plenty of laughs and a few nice poignant moments, and both fans and non-fans of the sport should be able to find some enjoyment here.

Pretty fun(ny) to watch if you're a fan of English football. Or at the very least a football fan. Not sure what impact it would have on someone else. As a movie in itself it's not exactly a piece of art, but it's OK for what it is: a lighthearted English comedy about the world of football.
