Admirably tries to walk that difficult tightrope between musical genius and troubled individual without sweetening the pot too much. Maybe 2 hours just isn't enough to contain a 50-year career.

Exactly what I expected. Talking heads, montages of photographies to get across a feeling of a specific time period and constant use of music. This documentary tries touching on everything while giving none of the topics the proper time. Read the biography instead.

By the numbers but effective and informative piece, nearly record by record, through his multiple sounds and phases, on one of the most gifted artists have ever walked the Earth. I wish the parts about his abusive, cool but arrogant, antissocial, self-destructive persona were longer and and maybe less folcloric, but they are at least present.

As someone who thinks "Kind of Blue" is sleep-inducing, elevator music bullshit...I did not enjoy this documentary.
