Minamata

A brutal story of corporate pollution and the toll on the local human health. Corporate greed at its finest. Some of the images were incredibly heartbreaking. Depp and Nighy were great, as always. My only complaint was the sloppy handling of the love story. Music and imagery was very good.

If only the succint performances and somber cinematography weren't undermined by the casual approach Minamata takes in telling its story, it would have surely reached its full potential as a haeartbreaking story based on real life. Regardless Depp and Bages' authenticity alone deserves praise.

With all due respect to Eugene's work and with the utmost respect to the victims of this gory man-made tragedy, the movie falls short of doing true justice to the actual Minamata story. Some powerful imagery and soul-stirring shots/scenes, but the narration, acting, and screenwriting felt haphazard. Poor attention to detail. The backstory was under-developed and focus on unimportant bits do an injustice to the real story. Common guys, you have an incredible story to tell here; buckle up.

great soundtrack

This is a pretty straightforward film. It's about a very decisive wrong committed by a startlingly negligent company, and exposing it brings new life to a has-been who has given up on life ... plus he gets the girl. You have seen this before. But ... Depp is really quite good here.
