Minamata

A methodical and heart-wrenching exploration of an environmental and human tragedy. Probably the most amazing thing about this documentary is that there's very little attempt to tug at heartstrings the way most filmmakers would. Even with numerous interviews and a good deal of footage of victims, it's a film more interested in finding answers and expressing disgust than with making emotional pleas. The reserved style covering barely contained frustration meshes well with the subject too.

it is important to remember that the Minamata disaster case is not over and many lawsuits against Chisso and the prefectural and national governments are still continuing. many of the victims are still alive today.
