It's nothing new, and it might not use its theoretically hilarious concept to its fullest, but "Mindhorn" has charm in spades, filling the mold of a light, inconsequential, and supremely adequate comedy to a tee, offering exactly what the trailers so diligently promised, and then some.

Watch: Netflix this one with your butteriest popcorn | If you've seen the trailer you know exactly what you're gonna get from this movie. To quote someone coming out of the theater: "That was mindless rubbish." A perfectly accurate summation, though I'd say it in a much more positive tone than she did. Loads of silly jokes (some landing better than others) and some clean fun all-around. Turn this mother on (spoiler joke) and enjoy a relaxing giggle.

I've got a lot of time for Barratt and Farnaby, so I quite enjoyed this nonsense. Tovey and Coogan are good value for money as well; in fact the cast is uniformly decent. It's funny, and odd, if perhaps a bit on the slight side. Charming.

Some good silly jokes here and there. Barratt puts in a convincing role as the washed-up actor of Mindhorn, making it a pretty fun ride while not being memorable in the least.

A fun concept that could probably have done with being explored a bit more thoroughly. However, in a market full of dullard route-one comedies that inexplicably drag on forever, it's refreshing to see something that works through its laughs good and quick. Farnaby is a particular highlight.

Bergerac meets Alan Partridge. Considering the supporting cast, that's kind of literal. Anyway, it feels like this material could have been mined for more than just one movie. I wouldn't be overly surprised if they went for a parody series off the back of this.

British absurdity meets British dryness. parched lips dry is how extreme it is, and i appreciate that but its too dry to be so absurd as well, or vice versa if you will. Farnaby plays it the best, his scenes were highlights, his delivery marvellous. Nice to see essie Davis, disappointing its a film and role without meat or depth for her. Barrat is one note, weve seen this in every will ferrel movie, just without said British dryness. "I sowed my wild oats here" "yessir its very good soil"

As a whole mildly amusing but not remarkable.

Takes a while to get going, but once it does the preposterous and at times overly convoluted plot starts to pay off. Simon Farnaby as Clive Parnevik is the standout (although I might think otherwise if I was Dutch). The glimpses of The Mighty Boosh (The Kestrel temporarily imprisoning Mindhorn in his bunker is reminiscent of Old Gregg imprisoning Howard Moon in his underwater lair) are nice to see (a Noel Fielding cameo would have been good).

Overly cynical and mean for being such a light goofy comedy. Like if there was an american reboot of Alan Partridge starring Will Ferrell.

A promising movie, with a lead and premise loaded with potential. Sadly they aren't always used to their fullest extent. The trailer makes this look hilarious, but upon viewing the slower pace makes a lot of the otherwise funny bits seem overly dry (even by british standards). Still there is enough here to make it a fairly good action comedy. I think people comparing this to a Will Ferrell movie are slightly off the mark. IMO it would have been amazing as one of those 15 minute Adult Swim shows.

Utterly delightful bit of British drollery is like lighter hued Winterbottom - while the premise suggests familiar, predictable plotting, this actually goes off in its own haphazard, enjoyable direction and scores strongly; Barratt makes a terrific hapless lead, but its the supporting cast that brings this to life with each actor bringing an eccentric spin to their characters (especially a hilarious Farnaby). Great fun if you can appreciate its wavelength.

It features quite a lot of crude language, more specifically sex references and the titular character is a bit like an Alan Partridge type - indeed Steve Coogan, who plays Alan Partridge, features in this film asn ex-colleague of Mindhorn. Its quite a cheesy film and a little cliched I thought. Its fairly entertaining I suppose and its an easy enough watch, generally but its certainly nothing new and its definitely not the sort of film I'm likely to think about at all after seeing it.

Julian Barratt doesn't have as much charisma as he thinks he has, and that is why this film falls flat on its arse.

Stumbling across this one night I took a punt and was pleasantly rewarded. Unashamedly British humour, with some scenes and lines that had me bursting out with laughter. The first act is best, with Barrat hitting all the right notes with his ageing actor’s delusion of importance. Unfortunately as the climax nears the film starts to mirror the cheap schlock of its title, with the finale feeling like it was written and filmed in one afternoon. A shame, as it’s almost a keeper.

I watched for 20 minutes and didn't recognise a single a joke so it's not a comedy
