Dreary, dated drama is hurt by Meredith's miscasting as timid psychologist, and generally overwrought dissertations of human psychology; Moore's wooden performance in support also doesn't help.

A fine, if slightly overlong, drama about a psychoanalyst and his patients. Interesting how differently psychology is viewed here than now, or even 10 years later. Not quite denigrated, but certainly looked at with a skeptical eye, and that creates some interesting tensions in the film between the not-doctor and those around him. Overall there's a cheery underlying air to the film that is sometimes nice, but at its darkest moments feels off and in general undermines the tension.

A very honest portrayal of psychotherapy, that empathizes well that it is an uncertain process and the therapist not a magical problemsolver by making its protagonist a fallible man, who's personal live intervenes with his patient treatments.

There is a deep and psychological story underneath, but I don't think they managed to get the most out of the material. Felt more like they went the sensationalized route, especially with that death ending. Expressive moment, but how much they managed to uncover and deal with his mental problems felt limited. Also from a story point.
