The last time I saw a movie at the cinema was in 2019 for Cats. I watched movies die that day. Today, 2022, I was there for it's rebirth

I spent two days taking minion memes and very poorly photoshopping California Raisin toys over the Minions but leaving the terrible slogans in place, then posting them on Facebook every hour on the hour. On the second day my own mother asked if I was having a stroke. I guess that's unrelated. This had one enormously funny bit (airplane) and a lot of plot. I don't know what to do with these things, other than photoshop California Raisins over them.

I'm trauma-bonded with these Minions, I'm now past Minions-depression and into Minions-acceptance

This time they actually come with a story. Very good first half. The finale is stupid and totally gratuitous superhero-ish mayhem.

This doesn't try to be anything but family-friendly silly fun, and it's good at being what it is. It's funny how well they know their core audience: a huge part of this movie is boomer nostalgia.

The animation and voice acting are fine, perhaps even good, but The Rise of Gru is a tired film that reuses locations, jokes, and plot elements from previous instalments. The Minions somehow sound more annoying this time around.

Is it so wrong I find them cute and funny?

There aren’t enough kids movies with asscheeks in them. More like this please! Okay but seriously, it’s not that bad. I didn’t think it was nearly as obnoxious as it could have been (I have only seen the first Despicable Me, which I liked) and the animation was very clean and well done. Familiar voice work and some really solid absurdity made the most basic story of the year pretty enjoyable. Definitely see this if you need something to take your kids to. There’s much worse animated fare.

The only good thing I can say about this disaster is that it was mildly better than the first Minions movie. I guess kids might have a good time. Why am I watching these again?

(Rewatch: still tired) I'm all minioned-out several movies ago. I even fell asleep several times. By-the-numbers non-Pixar animation: stunt casting (but cool to see JCVD, Danny Trejo, Lucy Lawless, and Dolph Lundgren), needle drops, worldwide market pandering, slapstick consisting of mostly fart jokes, but no heart. Good for Steve Carell and Michelle Yeoh to bring in that voice actor money. Fav scene: initial tomb raiding was fun; maybe I'd like the bank heist if I didn't sleep through it.

Entertaining family stuff. They do crazy things and misbehave.

This new Minions film should be classified as an animated drama film. I mean, the airplane scene was the only funny part of the film.

Never been a big fan of Gru and his Minions and this didn't change that. Moments of genius, interesting ties to other movies, but overall, *yawn*

There’s no new ideas here, but it’s fine I guess and very acceptably brief.

It starts off strong and is pretty funny, but it really hits a lull about a half hour in and doesn’t ever recover.

While the story may be forgettable, “Minions: The Rise Of Gru” perfects the animation and humor that the franchise has been trying to get right for over a decade. The commitment to delivering humor over story is a wise move that allows the film to shine in a way few other animated films can, and the animation is top-notch. The non-stop jokes will have both kids and adults laughing, making it the funniest animated film of the summer.

I find "Minions: The Rise of Gru" to be a big improvement over Despicable me 3. Overall, it's a solid franchise and this is maybe my favorite installment. The animation feels really polished and beautiful and the minions are at their cutest. Most "fun for the whole family" animations are too childish and/or awkward, but those little buggers are just the right amount of silly.

In the vortex of horrors that is kids entertainment, getting to see something that doesn't make you immediately want to gouge out your eyes is a rarity, so color me surprised that I left the cinema with my eyesight intact after taking the kids to see a Minions film.

Serviceable family film which benefits from the 70’s setting. It starts to run out of steam even though it’s barely 90 mins long. I also have trouble recalling the plot after 1 week, but it was still fun, although disposable times at the cinema.

Definitely one of the more entertaining animated movies. Plus I watched it in cinemas with everyone being super exciting, but I'm trying to make it not affect the rating. // It is fun, predictable, and generic and times but fun. It's the type of movie you can watch at 5 am and still understand something and sometimes that is a movie that you really can appreciate. Also, fun to see some foreshadowing and backstory.
