A sweet film about family. Very inventive and has an amazing finale. The film drags a little at the end of the 2nd act. If a few of the time travel characters lasted longer than a scene, I think the movie's plot would have improved, because the small boy couldn't carry it on his own. Overall still worth a watch, especially if you love films about family.

Imaginative, funny, and touching: a beautiful little fable about family. Its final message is too high-concept for its toddler protagonist, which gives it an air of silliness, but it's still a lovely resolution and an excellent film.

Eng dub w/orig subs. Beautiful animation. The story was intertwined with Japanese folklore so more understanding would have helped. I enjoyed the depictions of domestic life especially the dynamic between mom and dad. Kun was a little brat but realistic. I did not expect a generational story but it was like a sweeter version of Tokyo Story or other similar Japanese family movies. Fav scene: again, I really enjoyed the childcare differences between the parents and when mom had to pick up toys.

Some gorgeous visuals and genuinely funny moments lost in a sea of lethargic pacing and nonsensical diversions.

Spectacular last quarter, and a great concept. Unfortunately, it's hard to sympathize with kid and the movie could benefit from being tightened up

While it's well animated, well written, and an effectively powerful coming of age story, "Mirai" has a tendency to drone on a little bit. You'll enjoy yourself, I'm sure, but you'll probably check your watch a couple times too.

A very nicely animated film about the ties that bind families together throughout the generations. The film struggles to keep up momentum due to its episodic nature, but that's forgotten once the emotions connect.

If 90 minutes of babies crying and toddlers melting down appeals to you, this is your film.

I like the central premise a lot, but I mostly found this shrill, grating, and extremely tiresome.

After the career-defining Wolf Children and the somewhat shaky Boy and the Beast, Hosoda's third writer-director outing cements him as one of the all-too-rare canonical auteurs in modern Japanese animation. Hosoda crosses generations with magical realism, making his adult themes shine with youthful wonder and giving immensely personal weight to the outlook of his young protagonist (fittingly based on his own kids).

Dull and lethargic film is at least a joy to look at, with some beautifully designed lifelike animation, but the underlying story is repetitive and overstated, and the characters (especially Kun as our entry point) are largely overstated and shrill caricatures. The ultimate lesson of the story about the binds of family is also delivered with far too heavy a hand.

A gentle movie and a really rough movie. Gently blends the reality of having children with imagination of children's perception of reality / non-reality. One who expects only pleasant things from a movie will surely be disappointed as movie involves some annoying moments - probably like in real life - nothing is just made from nice moments. Dream-like movie, great movie.

The first half is a bit hard to follow, however lifelike it is, but it's pretty good once it gets going.

Nicely animated and a touching story but damn the main kid is annoying.

There were some definite fun parts but overall I found this to be quite boring. Also, the voice acting especially from Moka Kamishiraishi (Kun) was off and was very distracting.

It has an imaginative and interesting premise, but was very tiring to watch, often because of imaginative nonsensical absurdity.

This is basically Catcher in the Rye via anime Japan. Still really creative visually and good little flick, if a bit heavy handed and didactic. People who discern the theme quickly could find the film repetitive. Emotionally moving and charming film.

I was disappointed how derivative this felt. The animation was predictably dazzling, the plot appealing but the kid got on my nerves.

Yet another sweet, family friendly Ghibli charmer. It ain't easy, and they keep piling up. Let's hope Ghibli never ends.
