A relatively uninspired, yet perfectly serviceable kids movie. While there are a great deal of new classics from the past twenty years in kids movies, every genre is going to have its chaff for adults to ignore while their kids watch it.

Laika's trademark top-notch animation is somewhat brought down by a formulaic buddy story that only achieves narrative heft sporadically, and has an odd reliance on bottom-of-the-barrel jokes.

The animation is superb, of course, but the story is predictable (sans the smart lady companion actually going off on her own at the very end, hooray!) and uninspiring. There are a few decent jokes (Stephen Fry's spot-on colonial Brit is great), but the "emotional arc" is not only obvious but also more of just a sharp bend at the very end.

it's not bad by any means but deals with such a generic and formulaic story that it's hard not to feel disappointed because of how much potential it had. The stop motion is BEAUTIFUL though, a truly wonderful visual experience for sure.

Another visual splendorfest from Laika that's heavily dampened by a dull, uninspired story. This trend of extravagant, gorgeous stop-motion spoiled by subpar storytelling is troubling.

The Missing Link (2019) was the chemistry between the characters. Sure, this was otherwise smug and well done, but not an ultimate adventure which got the most out of it's personas. Not one that salutes the superb craft which went into this.

Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I found Missing Link only mildly amusing and entertaining.

Missing Link is a good animated film that lacks the usual Laika darkness to make it stand out. The film is brighter and more colourful, with the (relative) edginess coming from the dialogue rather than the concept. The voice acting is good, though the Brits (Fry & Thompson) are a little too recognisable. Overall a short film about friendship and belonging, albeit one that is fairly pedestrian.

Decent Laika fare, but I feel like the studio is getting progressively less interesting with each feature. Zach Galifianakis is a nice touch.

Mildly entertaining but nothing I would go out of my way to see. Its really one of those I'd watch it if it popped up on TV or if I just wanted something to throw on in the background that people didn't have to pay too much attention to.

Well designed, good natured animation can only add so much spark to a rote and tired screenplay, pitched at an unsophisticated child audience. Always a visual treat, with some choice performances in a well chosen cast (Fry's essential reprisal of his Melchett character is a delight), but it is a shame the screenplay couldn't be more witty or clever.

A movie can be so bad it can squander any technological achievements it may have. Sure Missing link is well animated, but its story is beyond bland and predictable. Characters have no arc. And the humor is so bad I forgot what it felt like to laugh. Latika's spin on the Around the World in 80 Day"s" style adventure movie is not only forgettable, but its unforgivably bad. At least Hugh Jackman is good. He always tries so hard in his awful movies.

The story isn't anything special, but it's a fun family film with amazing stop motion animation.

Bursting with charm, if clearly narratively lacking and not as engaging at Laika at their best.

This will go down as the greatest technical achievement of 2019. It's shocking how much this film raises the bar for stop motion, even just within the opening sequences, where they depict water so vividly you'll wonder whether this film used CGI after all.

Not the greatest plot, but the cast and sheer charm of the thing elevate it.

Beautifully put together - old fashioned story telling but not sure who this is aimed at because the subject matter is quite out dated.

My feelings on Missing Link are buttressed almost exclusively by my love for stop-motion animation. Like all of Laika’s work, Link is lovely to look at (and outright astonishing at times), and its visual and technical achievements are enough for me to excuse, well, most everything else. The scene-to-scene rhythms of this movie are so odd and I really over-valued the amount of successful humor on my first viewing; the Galifanakis material in particular is pure crickets.

I did not find a lot of humor in this story. Or charm. It mostly annoyed me.

Stunning animation, lackluster paint by numbers adventure buddy story. I could have stared at the environments all day but I zoned out at the dull banter that's on par with the sentiments of what 3-year-olds find amusing.

Decent enough movie. The animation is of course quite impressive, but the story wasn't all that particularly interesting, unfortunately. Plenty of fun moments for a single viewing, but I won't be buying this one.

It's really adorable and pretty poignant how Susan/Mr. Link's naive personality applies in nice fashion to a narrative bound to "destroy" parthiarcal scientists with an anti-colonialist take on humanity's origins. Narratively it seems as engaging and irregular, but that's fine.
