Much like the characters in the Fast and Furious movies, Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt has, over the course of the series, evolved from something resembling a human being into an invincible superhero. But you know what? I'm here for it.

The type of dumb action movie where, after two minutes of bikers closely chasing Cruise's car, some hack screenwriter still felt it necessary to have the Simon-Pegg-like unfunny comic relief character (in this case, Simon Pegg) shout "They're coming!" as if we, highly valued audience members, do not quite grasp that they, indeed, are coming and actually had been coming for quite a while already and ughh why am I getting irrationally angry at random dumb lines like this and why am I still writi

This was a pretty damn good movie, especially for a sequel. The fifth installment of the M:I franchise is one of the best, with great performances and solid direction, with a good story in the bargain. Ferguson and Harris are done great welcoming additions. I thought the humor was done well and the chase scenes, stunts, and action were really good. Personally loved the tank scene and how it was shot. Good stuff. I'd recommend it if you've made it this far in the series.

Not as great as III and IV, but definitely more fun than most action-thrillers. Cruise and Pegg have their roles down pat, and Ferguson is fine (choose your own meaning, both apply). The script is lazy, but it's all about the stunts anyway. Keep 'em coming, Cruise.

Continues the nice balance of action, thrills, comedy, and drama from the last installment. And as action movies rely more and more on CGI, the practical stunts really stand out (though the CGI they did use was ironically sub-par).

Impossibilities abound, as in the opening scene that they're so proud of that they used in in the poster. And in the underwater scene. They've been making non-metallic re-breathers and scuba equipment for years. That said, I thought the scene in the opera house and the motorcycle chase, were cool.

The action is not impressive, it's rarely funny and it's not that clever. Not enough layers to the "spy" game and many ridiculous moments. The end is just a lazy shootout through dark alleys. The bike chase is terrible, they pass the same truck with red gas cylinders twice in 40 seconds (it was going the opposite direction). Has the worst CGI car flip ever. Where is the finesse? Where is importance of each scene? Flushed away in some high-tech-super-cooled-constantly-spinning security facility.

Rogue Nation satisfyingly builds on the success of it's predocessor and this is arguably the most rounded M:I installment to date. Chris McQuarrie remarkably seems to have found the balance of the spy and espionage tone of the original M:I with the spectacle and excitement of Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise once again gives the fans what they want, Simon Pegg has worthy involvement & Rebecca Ferguson is a breath of fresh air. And as expected the stunts and set pieces raise the bar impressively.

The Mission Impossible films in their current forms understand what summer blockbusters are supposed to be: solid plotlines that make sense, well-dosed humor, special effects in service of a scene rather than being the scene, and an engaging ragtag of performers. Cruise appears to still be having fun, Pegg still works great as the comic relief, Renner still functions well as a blanket when wet, and the action is great. Looking forward to the next one.

Fantasy comedy, but not really amusing enough, even though the wife has now been eliminated altogether. Seems to argue that if only the CIA would learn to work cooperatively with an unregulated body operating outside any legal accountability, then everything would turn out for the best. Still a bit orange and teal.

Big, dumb, American fun. I don't doubt that everyone involved successfully delivered the movie they were asked for - a boys adventure that an international audience could follow - but there's nothing here really to commend. It's at the opposite end of the super-spy genre from Bourne of course, but perhaps shares enough common ground with Bond for comparison; bored throughout, I found myself longing for the comparatively adult wit and sophistication of recent Bond films.

Found it very hard to engage with this one. Very uninteresting, apart from the great motorcycle chase. Tried too hard to be like the 1st one. cgi was bad. The villain seemed like a weird talking weirdo people told stories about, but you never really see him do stuff except be weird and not into Ethan Hunt. Music was mostly random. It's like they had a very simple story, but told it in such a convoluted way they confused themselves and forgot about inner logic and characters' motivations

I think it's the first MI movie to get it "just right". It seems that Rogue Nation finally found the harmony between the comedic beats found in MI's more recent installments, the spectacle of all the elaborate action sequences, and the more straight-faced drama. Sure, it might as well be known as "Plot Convenience Nation" with all of the technology being well-nigh magic and logic being reduced to an accessory, but this becomes moot when the stunts and character interactions are this fun.

A film so unmemorable I only remembered I saw it when the Inevitable Sequel hit theaters, and I'll probably forget to write about that one until 2021. A related inquiry: what is Cruise's elixir of life? At this point the most plausible explanations are 1) cloning, 2) bathing in the virgin blood of Jack Reacher fans, 3) inhaling the sacrificed Thetans of Suppressive Persons.

As underwhelming as the last couple of M:Is have been, at least they were watchable. Barely ten minutes into this one I was already bored, fed up with the poor script and generic nonsense going on on screen and itching to get on with something more productive whilst the film ran in the background. It's not downright awful, but just seems content to tick the same old boxes and move on - you never care about anything that's happening, and as a result are never invested in the plot or characters.

The most grounded entry of the series stunt-wise, and the most outlandish in switcheroos, which are so numerous as to be exhausting. "You think double and triple-agents are exciting? A well made, decent-looking and largely unimpressive action movie. The airplane scene, used in the advertisements to draw everyone in, is completely irrelevant and pretty disappointing. The story is throwaway, Simon Pegg doesn't add much, but the stunts are good and some of the action is pretty enjoyable. Everyone obviously tried hard to make this movie not bad (not a single aspect of this movie is terrible), but in the meantime nobody seems to have made the effort to make a movie worth making.

A ridiculous, fantastic opening sequence with Cruise's all-in-all-the-time Hunt ("I'm not in the plane, I'm ON the plane!") sets the stage for another wonderful batch of thrilling action that is just so insane and entertaining and well-made that you often forget what the plot is in the midst of it-and this time around the plot has its moments of deeper intrigue and character nuance (Ilsa's a nice addition here, sans those gratuitous bod shots) like M:I 1, so it's not like that's not saying much.

Mcquarrie directs comedy better than action. Did no one tell him close shot quick cut action is finally and thankfully going out of style? which isn't to say its all bad action, or even bad at all, i just feel it could have been better. In any case it has the 2nd best story after the first one and is as fun a trip as any in the series. I esp loved the use of the theme in the soundtrack...lots of interesting arrangements based on the locales...and loved the lack of music during the car chase

A few of the plot devices and stunts were implausible at best, especially the underwater computer vault nonsense. Excusing that, there is plenty of action & almost too many twisty plot turns, but some were clever. An excellent motorcycle chase. Cruise was acceptable but not particularly stellar. Rebecca Ferguson was aloof & very pretty. Simon Pegg was almost entirely unconvincing, & the bad guys were mostly forgettable. Alec Baldwin was better than usual lately. Great production quality & sound.

Finding it hard to articulate my apathy. A lot of telling-not-showing. Our heroes remain as cocky as ever despite having been reduced to de facto vigilantes. Enjoyed Pegg but he's just doing his usual thing. Sean Harris's villain is a fun kind of creepy. McQuarrie directs well enough but not as well as he did Jack Reacher, though maybe the subject matter and tone of that film was simply more appealing to me.

Guess I never saw "Ghost Protocol", though I thought I remembered seeing it. Reading the plot summary of GP it almost feels like they just re-used the same idea -- the IMF shutting down and going rogue -- but I'm totally cool with re-hashing that idea if this is the result. This is a really good movie. Sure there are enough plot twists and swerves to break your neck, but remember that most of them are inconsequential in the end. Just enjoy the stunts and Cruise being Cruise, and you'll dig this.

As good as Ghost Protocol in the least, I think it has a better cast and ending. 8/10. It's not as serious and self important as say Skyfall. Skyfall is more stylish, given, but McQuarrie does a good job andanages some impressive and original action set pieces. The female agent is great, thoroughly capable and in every way an equal. Not rescued by hunt once, the opposite in fact. The mousetraps they build for themselves are amusing as always, they even managed to NOT do that

Unlike Star Wars or Star Trek, the M:I series is the perfect stomping ground for Abrams to show off his action sensibilities. So naturally he's not directing. Ethan Hunt has never had to go one on one with a bad guy that would stand a chance in a fist fight with him (I don't remember M:I 2... on purpose), and while Sean Harris is good in the role, he will forever be the guy who's sole purpose is to map the ship from Prometheus and who promptly gets lost inside said ship from Prometheus.

A clear-cut case of a filmmaking team knowing what the audience wants and delivering just that. "Rogue Nation" is another more-than-worthy addition to this adrenaline surge of a franchise with the seemingly ageless Tom Cruise still churning out impressive stunt work in an endless array of action scenes. Essentially, the one-action-scene-right-after-the-other structure might not win any awards for its depth but is certainly very entertaining and, at its best moments, extremely thrilling.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is another Mission: Impossible movie, by which I mean that you should know what to expect, and the film delivers the expectations that come with that classification. M:I shows no signs of stopping with Rogue Nation, and neither does Tom Cruise, as he performs some of the most dangerous stunts of his career. Although the first 2 films were only intermittently entertaining, the past 3 have established that this franchise now out-Bonds Bond. Although generic uber-spy Ethan Hunt remains a weak link, Cruise's hell-yeah intensity & impressive physicality makes up for it. Like many spy flicks, the writers can't resist contorting the plot into so many reversals & twists that holes appear, but the many action sequences/stunts are spectacular & never feel long-in-the-tooth like a certain 007.
