Apart from the unscrupulous Louis Jouvet, the other characters where uninteresting, Didn't help that they gave Fernand Gravey a ridiculous beard. He just looked phony with it, which diminished his appeal as the hero. While there was a lot of nothing going on, the conclusion was smoothly done, in tone with the movie itself.
