If these two hours are anything to base off, I don't think that even if it were to be a 50-episode series that it'd shine particularly well. The whole thing is pretty much an abridged version of standard Gundam, for better or for worst.

Considering that this 2-hour film was salvaged from what was meant to be a 50-episode series, what we got isn't that bad. It leans a little too heavily on the original series, but so does every other Gundam property.

Everyone is yelling, all the time. There is no release and tension, it's all tension. The story introduces a hundred characters, a hundred explosions, a hundred enemies, taking place in hundred locations. And after the hundredth fight breaks out we may wonder who is shooting at what, where, and why. A complicated story that lacks complex characters, conflicts, and meaning. At times it feels as if it tried to force 50 episodes into one movie. The myriad of unavoidable plot-holes are a given.

It's a mess, but it has some of the best animation Gundam ever got. As for being an abridged series, it has its ups and downs: things happen so quickly that there's barely any time to comprehend what's happened, but the quick movement keeps the plot moving forwards, something Gundam has problems with at times.
