Not the best adaptation that’s for sure

Barrymore does a fine quirky performance, the type he was known for, and Joan Bennett was a comfortable presence. Lloyd Hughes on the other hand was a talking stiff, the main reason why the silent star never made it big in talkies. While this is a uneven experience, there are some cool scenes and one get to see a early use mechanical animal as they go hunting for the whale, so definitely intriguing to witness this creation even if it doesn't follow the book.
