The three ex-Ghibli directors here have as good a claim to the age-old "next Miyazaki" title as anyone else. Yoshiyuki Momose's segment in particular is a stunning tribute to the Takahata school of animation.

Kanini & Kanino: 6.8 - nice little short, but feels a bit too much like a underwater dialogue retake on Arrietty, which would be less a problem if it wasn’t from the same directors and therefor feeling a tad uninspired. Life Ain't Gonna Lose; 7,5 - very fine short about being and having a kid with a deadly food allergy. It’s a tale of real unsung modest heroes. Invisible: 5.5 - get what it was aiming for; the feeling of being unseen. But didn’t care much for it.

The animation is great as you would expect. The stories are varied and interesting.

Kanini & Kanino: weakest of the trio, ending robs all tension from the story for a happy ending that feels inauthentic. Live Ain't Gonna Lose: powerful tale of everyday struggles for a child with a deadly food allergen and his mother, personal favorite. Invisible: great atmospherics with its rainy, foggy setting, outstandingly, indulgently well-made character animation, good metaphor for feeling unseen by society but taking pro-social action anyway.

Short stories in any form whether written or in film don't really work for me as I'm usually left wanting more and not in a good way.

A collection of loosely themed shorts that even assembled seems too short to make an impact. The last one is a diamond in the rough that deserved some more thought and an expansion, but the others beg the question: don't you have any better ideas? If not, you could probably find a better one dumpster diving behind Miyazaki's house.

Definitely has a Ghibli vibe. The first story is maybe visually the most ambitious but the two other stories hit emotionally harder.
