Even for an unapologetically campy film this is pretty damn silly with a plot that makes incredibly little sense, something that isn't helped by the accents. Still, the flashy colours are enticing as is the sheer absurdity of some of the gags. Also, Monica Vitti is pretty damn hot.

Modesty Blaise is what I want to call hot rubbish. Quite the absurd film really...but there's quite the appealing quality to the absurdity of it all, sleek and stylised...in its own uniquely trashy way. Aside from the memorable imagery, Gabriel has numerous moments of gold, the white wig and his lust for champagne, burnt forever into my psyche.

Pure Swinging Sixties nonsense spectacle. The best example of its stylistic abandon: Monica Vitti's hair color often changes within a single scene.

Monica Vitti is as perfect Modesty Blaise as was Angelina Jolie Lara Croft. But seriously, Modesty with accent? The story was a mesh of beautiful locations with not much of connection in between. Only good think with the version I saw was that it was in very good condition. Looked like restored one.

Silly and badly aged but not completely unwatchable.

What apparently Joseph Losey ment as a inspired spoof of the spy movie craze prevalent at the time turn out to be a the best pop art comic book film after "danger diabolik". Although this is nothing like Peter O'Donnell's written comic book, it still has a place.

A confused and tonedeaf adaptation where script, direction and acting can only ever agree on one single thing: It's the 60s.
