Leave it to modern South Korean cinema to mash together two of the most insane high-concept horror ideas in recent memory. Once you get past the initial shock of the balls (or lack thereof) behind the setup, though, much like when our protagonist pulls down his pants, there's not too much to be found,

The clearest representation as to why Ki-duk Kim is a director I'm always interested, but never excited, to explore.

Can't say that I cared much about the story and its glorification of penises and sexual themes that would have given Freud multiple orgasms. Totally awed though how well a movie without dialogue works - at time the gestures are so strong that you know exactly what they would have said in that situation in a more conventional movie. Together with the strong acting and the utter unpredictability of it, this still makes it a fascinating movie to watch.

The movie's got interesting plot of the moebius strip but Kim Ki-duk did not explore it enough. Like that the story was mere one dimensional. You could call it also as a dick. Simple as that. And yes, I know how the adultery can ruin the nuclear family in pieces. I did not find the story revolting, I just expected more deeper meaning out of it.

A man's infidelity leads his wife to emasculate their son before disappearing. So begins a wordless series of violent, tragic episodes, with aberrant sexuality and repetition at the forefront. One might reasonably find the whole thunderously misogynistic, but the real critique here is of male sexuality; that said, the lack of dialogue becomes a hindrance, and even at 88 minutes, it grows sluggish. Ki-duk Kim's direction and Eun-woo Lee's double performance are impressive enough.

I am now convinced of the existence of a secret network of dickless pain addicts, who are like vampires except instead of blood they feed on dicks. Every time they cut someone's dick off they create one of their own.
