Momma's Man

Seems like Azazel Jacob just read a chapter in a psychology book and then made a film. Blergh.

The ending is probably a little too ambivalent to push the film over the edge into excellence, but it's surprisingly effective otherwise.

man, i know these sorta dudes so well. the actual movie is fine, whatever, move along, more 'real' people living 'real' lives stuff that mumblecore types are obssessed with and i don't really care about, though there are a few emotional moments scattered throughout.

(Mumblecore-spotting) Jacobs' follow-up to his hip no budget charmer Goodtimeskid is a psychological drama about man-child growing up. It feels like a conscious decision to make a career out of filmmaking, and make a film that film festivals people would notice. There are some good observations in this film, and some really awkward scenes (awkwardness is what I like about American indies).

Within its modest docudrama style, Momma's Man addresses universal experience as presumptuously as does a mainstream Pop epic.
