I've faked having the runs a few times to get out of stuff. I love this trend of people doing ridiculous crimes just to keep me entertained for 90 minutes a few years later on HBO.

By the numbers true crime doc that doesn't go deep enough into a story that looks like a Stephen King book. The case is weird enough to provoke a number of thoughts, but it's too bad that the narrative seems less curious about answers and obvious questions -- I expected more doctors talking about it and the father's role is relegated to almost another victim of Dee Dee's tortures -- than fitting the story into a pulpy, juicy bizarre real life story.

This is a really fascinating and pretty unbelievable true crime documentary. Like a lot of stories of this nature, it's best to go in not knowing much. So yeah, it definitely took some crazy turns and is one of those cases where truth is stranger than fiction. It's a well-made documentary, with a good structure and just enough visual flourish to enhance it. I recommend giving it a watch, for sure.

A deeply fascinating story with twists you won't see coming and characters that are totally surreal. I really couldn't stand the one journalist talking head though, not sure what her purpose was.

I think people really underestimate Gypsy. Seeing her interact with the interviewer and then with her father at the end was creepy. All this innocence she claims is such bs. I hope she grows out of the manipulating little girl thing.

A truly bizarre true crime documentary which details the horrific abuse Deedee put Gypsey through and how that led to her eventually getting her mother killed by her boyfriend. It's a story that'll have you sick to your stomach realizing Gypsey never stood a chance and how the medical system failed her as well.

When one of the most prevalent talking heads in your docu is a 'journalist' for buzzfeed there is a low credibility ceiling from that alone. Much of this amounts to a sensationalised freak-show, I dunno, it's weird, I felt disgruntled watching and it's just not very good.

Fascinating and engrossing. All true-crime TV shows should be this interesting.

This is a story of an incredibly fascinating person, Gypsy Rose, with a surreal tale, told perfectly. It's sick, hypocritical bullshit that she has to rot in a prison cell for one day, much less ten years, and that the first group of people she'll ever be acclimated to are violent people. I really came to like Gypsy Rose from watching this and I hope she is completely vindicated. Stupid hick legal system.

Didn't really find this exploitative, beyond that which comes baked-in. As in Carr's cannibal cop doc the bizarre subject matter is treated with seriousness and sensitivity--but it is bizarre. Claims of sensationalism and freak-gawking seem more directed at the people, events, and culture depicted. It's gross/awful seeing those chats/pics, but easily justifiable if you don't begrudge the film its very existence. And yes, it's a travesty that Gypsy's in prison. Kill 'em all. Free Erik and Lyle.

The documentary feels somewhat morbid at times, which isn't justified, and that bothered me, but I guess that's just how most true crime docs are. The story it tells is wild, as everyone knows.
