Criminally underrated; his Inland Empire.

Very, very boring. I thought it could be so cool as Multiple Maniacs, but I was wrong. It's kinda interesting for John Waters' die-hard fans, because it's a very rare movie, but it's not funny or bizarre in a cool way.

Honestly, this isn't very good. Waters was spot on when he admitted it's too long and should have been a short. However, it's got some real gold scattered throughout and worth a shot for Waters fans.

Too messy, too hard to follow, too long, practically a silent film, and worst of all, it's not really that funny. It's a John Waters debut film, though, so I obviously didn't expect much, and his style is much improved with his second movie. Gotta start somewhere.

John Waters' debut is underwhelming compared to his classics from the 70s. I detected the influence of Jack Smith's "Flaming Creatures", and the seeds of what is to come from Waters and his troupe, but Mondo Trasho is nearly silent, with a muddled plot and too tedious to follow.

Too trashy for me to comprehend, but wasn't that what Waters would've wanted from us?

Seems to be a profane attack to Trinity and Catholic values as we go through different settings of modern city life. Interestingly, this one has the experimental spirit of early silent films like those of French surrealists. Too long and too boring for me. It'd be better to watch his later movies.

It certainly is perverse...and I don't mean that pejoratively. Almost every scene is much too long, but it definitely has its moments, especially Divine moaning "Oh, Mary...Mary! Oh...oh! It isn't easy being Divine!" while having a vision of the Virgin Mary. The first hour is essentially a silent movie (with soundtrack)--Mary Vivian Pearce walking down the street to "Pomp and Circumstance" is quite amusing. Pretty much a must-see for John Waters fans...and probably not for anyone else.

Wonderful soundtrack; this plays out more like a demented, if loose, narrative to accompany Waters' extensive record collection. The sound editing is brilliant, with small snippets of songs used in lieu of a traditional soundscape. Waters' early work is known for its amateur quality but his single handed editing of this soundtrack is astonishingly complex. I have a new technical respect for Waters having watched this and I recommend it as something different even for aficionados.
