Hmm, I guess I just needed to process 9/11 to find the joy within this totally bonkers movie. Rose McGowan

It was like Who Framed Roger Rabbit designed for Jim Carrey, spiced with limitless bellow waiste humor. What gave a birth for Monkeybone? Boner for early teenager boy. Lame. There was Rose McGowan as a cat woman but even from that they did not find anything good. Chris Kattan then again was very funny escaping the organ donating. All points for him!

No way near as bad as its reputation suggests. For all its flaws, there is still a vein of great surreal imagery and a black sense of humour, as to be expected from the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. I also admit that while most people will find Brendan Fraser and his mugging annoying, I actually enjoyed it immensely; it takes a lot of skill and courage to spend a lot of the film acting like a randy simian and Fraser is far more talented an actor than most would think.

This is not a film about a character called Monkeybone. This is a film about a guy with multiple personality disorder who, after falling into a coma is awoken with experimental drugs causing the monkeybone personality to assert itself. It is a tragic story but one that clearly demonstrates the need for proper clinical trials of all drugs that are trying to come to market.

One of the most stupendous and totally idiotic films I've seen, but somehow it's all the more endearing for it. Beneath some surprisingly imaginative visionry, portrayed by a host of surreal nightmares, and an entertainingly chaotic Brendan Fraser it does have a brainless appeal. This is a shame, because the rest of the film often feels very rough and the feeling that a little more thought could have gone into the plotline to turn such a inherently flawed idea into a more streamlined escapade.

What is the grace of Monkeybone? None. Fraser doing his role as always, Fonda here only as decoration and W. Goldberg is very annoying.

For how much work went into this movie by the animators, it's too bad it sucks so bad. The saving grace is Chris Kataan, holding in his guts with duct tape, running at the end of the movie. So much fun, and the best acting that guy will ever do.

It has a quality of flawed greatness that will probably earn it a cult following, but for most viewers, a Monkeybone will never be confused for a funny bone.

Ugly, unfocused mess not without some good ideas or ambition, but seems to have stalled somewhere in the development stage – never quite lifts off the runway, becoming bogged down in its over elaborate and noisy set design. Fraser’s aw-shucks innocent persona is well suited, but he isn’t given a great deal to play against, especially as the film devolves into a sloppy, plotless quagmire in the final act. I always have a soft spot for Goldberg, but she seems ill-at-ease (and basically wasted).

This feels like a live-action Ralph Bakshi movie. While there are certainty interesting and weird things to look at, I don't know if this all gels together to be a good story. It is a fever dream on acid with a stacked cast, but its energy often overpowers the narrative.

Used to find it really weird but fascinating when I was a kid. Seeing it again, my opinion changed. Some of the locations, ideas, and visuals are creepy and interesting, one almost wish for more of it. It's a shame they went so over the top with a part of the juvenile humour. It's mostly the monkey in any form and shape; when the monkey was on, it was anywhere between grating and embarrassing.

Weird just for the sake of it, with gags that aren't even clearly gags and nothing resembling a plot, it's a perfect example of brainless.

The premise works, and Selick brings it to life with some awesome production design. A little too zany for its own good at times, but I suppose that fits.

Monkeybone is an experience like no other. It has the potential to make you laugh -- and often will -- but it also has the ability to chill you to the bone. It certainly did that for me. I was scared all throughout, thanks in large part to the mixture of puppetry, CGI, and claymation, mixed in with dark humor and sometimes juxtaposed against the real world. It shows Brendan Fraser's versatility and it's something that you'll struggle to get out of your head long after it's done playing.

Remember Coppola's 'Jack'? Well, substitute Robin Williams for Brendan Fraser, and the acting challenge of portraying a child with the job of playing a talking monkey. 'Monkeybone' is essentially a strange rarety: The wrong kind of weird.

Who is this targeted at? Can't be kids, what with the internal organs, sexual innuendo, bone/chain/etcsaw fights and whatnot. Can't be 'young' adults, because monkeys aren't cool. But it can't be for grown ups, either, because it is a terrible movie. Brendan Fraser is intolerable as always, but it does have some cool visuals and a finale that is ridiculous enough to keep it from being a complete turd sandwich.

Inspires one very funny sequence with Chris Kattan as a dead gymnastics star -- he's not in it for long, but you'll see why he got third billing. The rest, unfortunately, is weird. Too weird. So weird, it starts to feel like weird-for-the-sake-of-weird. And by the end, we have Naked Dave Foley.
