Hmm, I guess I just needed to process 9/11 to find the joy within this totally bonkers movie. Rose McGowan

It has a quality of flawed greatness that will probably earn it a cult following, but for most viewers, a Monkeybone will never be confused for a funny bone.

One of the most stupendous and totally idiotic films I've seen, but somehow it's all the more endearing for it. Beneath some surprisingly imaginative visionry, portrayed by a host of surreal nightmares, and an entertainingly chaotic Brendan Fraser it does have a brainless appeal. This is a shame, because the rest of the film often feels very rough and the feeling that a little more thought could have gone into the plotline to turn such a inherently flawed idea into a more streamlined escapade.

For how much work went into this movie by the animators, it's too bad it sucks so bad. The saving grace is Chris Kataan, holding in his guts with duct tape, running at the end of the movie. So much fun, and the best acting that guy will ever do.

What is the grace of Monkeybone? None. Fraser doing his role as always, Fonda here only as decoration and W. Goldberg is very annoying.

No way near as bad as its reputation suggests. For all its flaws, there is still a vein of great surreal imagery and a black sense of humour, as to be expected from the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. I also admit that while most people will find Brendan Fraser and his mugging annoying, I actually enjoyed it immensely; it takes a lot of skill and courage to spend a lot of the film acting like a randy simian and Fraser is far more talented an actor than most would think.

This is not a film about a character called Monkeybone. This is a film about a guy with multiple personality disorder who, after falling into a coma is awoken with experimental drugs causing the monkeybone personality to assert itself. It is a tragic story but one that clearly demonstrates the need for proper clinical trials of all drugs that are trying to come to market.

Delightfully original. Some rank, dark humor and the only movie of its kind.

Inspires one very funny sequence with Chris Kattan as a dead gymnastics star -- he's not in it for long, but you'll see why he got third billing. The rest, unfortunately, is weird. Too weird. So weird, it starts to feel like weird-for-the-sake-of-weird. And by the end, we have Naked Dave Foley.

Probably the grestest half-cartoon fantasy film about a man and his talking boner.

Dumb and juvenile but also kind of entertaining and with surprisingly great visuals. I was also surprised that I didn't hate it.

Frantic and hectic, this movie has some interesting stuff in it, but it's also as sickening as getting lost in a funhouse.

The premise works, and Selick brings it to life with some awesome production design. A little too zany for its own good at times, but I suppose that fits.

Great concept for a film, just didn't work. Wasn't dark enough. Wasn't violent enough. Wasn't funny enough. Poorly cast. Really, the movie sucks shit, and it sucks even more shit considering how good it sounds on paper.

Wild and brilliant animation, great story, one of the best contemporary surreal films to be marketed towards the mainstream and failed. It's great, if you like wild unhindered cinema, this is a blast.
