Pennebaker perfectly captures an epochal moment in time. It looks so good because it was filmed by people of the caliber of Albert Maysles, and it sounds so good because it was recorded on an 8-channel reel-to-reel recorder (borrowed from The Beach Boys). It’s all seamlessly stitched together by Nina Schulman, and it’s totally groovy! Everyone in attendance, the public and artists alike, wanted a transcendental experience, and that’s exactly what they got with Ravi Shankar’s epic finale.
