Too much of the film lost to really gauge how good this is - however, the reinforcements leaving the car bit was quite brilliant (much better by itself than a few whole Arbuckle films..)

I'm not sure the fourth wall breaking has any more to it than winking at the audience and half the humour doesn't work for me, but on the whole it has a good number of effective gags. Among the better Arbuckle shorts.

It's a pity almost 75% of this only exists in a blurry, washed-out 16mm print, as the location shots look really nice in the little still around in 35mm. At any rate, it's an amusing, if not especially memorable, little short with jokey, self-referential intertitles (at least in the 23 minute 16mm cut.)

Kudos to Fatty for experimenting by doing some fourth-wall breaking meta-commentary in the intertitles, alas it doesn't really work well. Rest of the movie is a mixed bag with again some better use of filmmaking techniques and plotting than earlier Fatty shorts, but still with plenty of unfunny slapstick.

Its meta-awareness is a little jarring; otherwise, it's the standard let's shoot at each other and then fall down type of humor this series seems to be known for. I can't really tell if they were trying for something big, or if they were just trying to fill time.
