Naples, 1959. Renato Caccioppoli, Matematician, Bakunin's grandson for part of mother, back from the psychiatric hospital, abandoned by his wife, now a stranger for his colleauges at the university and at the Communist Party, lives his last days with disenchanted indifference till the suicide.
