Mother

No "war" here, maybe "post-war"? Grimly realistic B&W drama of woman with little prospect in life as she is poor. Forced to marry an unknown (whose ethnicity will later present problem- but of course that is hidden from her) as her heartless mum says he will then shell out funds for op to save her very ill son. Things seem to always go from bad to worse in what you think is a very hard watch, not entertaining, tho very well done. But, on reflection, there may be some glimmers of hope, good.

Second tier Shindo, but still an engaging movie, about the mother of a child with a malignant brain tumor, and her relationships with her stingy mother, her shady but devoted brother, and her second husband who is somewhat of a sugar-daddy.
