Difficult to rate, as we only have just less than half of the original. But from what we have, this could well have been among Ford's best silent features. The influence of Murnau is clear, especially in the early Ireland scenes--the atmospheric storm is especially striking. In the final scene, Ford holds the camera on one character singing, creating a wonderful dramatic tension, and then extending the tension further as another character remains in the background--mise en scene is exquisite.
