It's shot well so it looks really nice, but ultimately I was bored. It's a nice touch that the score is inspired by Drive, but nothing at all comes close to being exciting.

Motorway is like a 70s car movie, minus any kind of memorable, high stakes, pulse-pounding, well-shot climactic chase scene. It moves at a quick pace, but plays it safe until the finale where the director makes the bold decision for the most critical moments of the climax to be filmed...in a dark parking garage with all of the lights off. The most excitement comes at around the halfway mark, and even the dramatic turning point that follows lacked any punch.

Pretty lackluster car movie out of Hong Kong. Had a bit of potential in some parts, but never really came together.

This movie had a lot of potential but lacked the depth, character interactions and character development to push this film to greatness. I always enjoy seeing Josie Ho and Anthony Wong in films so that was a plus.

Quite impressive take on a variety of genres -- crime, buddy, heist and car porn --, but what really makes Motorway special is Cheang's dry but still stylish way to depict cops as just cops, drivers as just drivers and thieves as just thieves, not to mention Mlikway's absorbing action imagery -- these cars can ride, but the most interesting shots come in dark and fuzzy parking lots or highways, tiny corners and from side-shifting moves. For these guys, life is to be lived inside a car.
