I guess this proves they were making vapid comedies of this genre even earlier than I thought. This is not funny, it's just pathetic. Go floss your cat or comb your lawn instead of watching this.

Rarely do I actually laugh out loud at some of these old thymey classics, but I did a couple of times here, as the problems experienced by Grant's boxed-in city dweller (price gouging, shady businessmen, overcrowding, etc.) are easy enough to relate to in any decade. Grant is a personable and charismatic lead (umm, duh?), but the real star here is Melvyn Douglas who has many of the film's best lines as Grant's dry-humored best friend/lawyer, who may, in fact, be nailing his wife on the side.

love this film, as i do most of cary grant's comedies. sure his character doesnt change much from film to film, but you know what you're gonna get. solid acting, and a few really good laughs at his stoic exasperation. what carries the film, though, is the superb acting by mryna loy (as his wife) and melvyn douglas (grant's best friend). the story is based on the novelist's real-life adventures in building his dream house, and was also re-made with tom hanks and shelley long as the money pit.

Now here is a movie that makes you laugh loud, but in between the funny parts, you are extremely bored. I really enjoyed the comedy but there were a lot of times when i just sat and looked aimlessly at the tv waiting for results.

A lot of blandness, especially at the beginning, but there's also a lot of laughs. While it's predictable Douglas and Grant both know how to deliver sarcastic asides and Loy is pretty good too when she's given the chance.

Big yuks redeem the occasional tedium. Grant. Loy and Grant--three of the screens most sophisticated, ironic performers--work together extremely well here. The jealously plot is unnecessary and annoyingg, however, and this film unfortunately holds to distinction of being the first in which in which Myrna Loy is not absolutely gorgeous. It is , though, a well crafted confections and will provide you with an amusing two hours.

It was wittily written, but I found the children & wife too infuriating to be very sympathetic toward the guy for letting them run all over him. They were just super disrespectful! Not because of any of the jealousy stuff (I was glad with how that resolved), but just the day to day communication & flow of life. They really painted a grim portrait, almost too grim at times to be entertaining. It was cute, though, and ended well.

Slick comedy. Expertly handled, with Cary at his peak. And no one ever described room colors better than Loy!

Charming, light comedy with some dramatic elements. This was one of the better Cary Grant comedies; I don't really enjoy his slapstick ones.

This meanders into extremes: there are some priceless moments that anyone about to purchase a house should see, but surrounding it are long stretches where it's just deadly dull.

This massive mansion costs a bit more than my salary. Having to write more than one cheque has distracted me from my job of coming up with a slogan. It never rains but it pours! (I'd be inclined to raise this rating if Bill's 'closet' subtext was intentional.)

i'm not into this kind of comedy, but i'm really into cary grant so i thought he could save it for me. but he's rather lowkey in this one and doesn't really shine like normal. so i'm left with a pretty damn boring comedy of errors.

This is a perfect comedy movie. It's funny for both adults and kids, and also has realistic situations.
