Surprisingly decent (but then again, my expectations weren't high to begin with). Where the film lacks - anything with the kid, Portman's musical performance ignorance (seriously, it ruins the last scene), and the amazing disappearing ending - is made up for by the universal moral, charming performances and general imaginative visual and sound design. Sure it's predictable, but for what it is, it exceeds and then some.

What a delightful little film! Some scenes are completely over the top, but the number of puns and practical jokes is amazing. I have to admit that, contrary to my expectations, I really loved this film...

It's just too silly, too childish, too light, too full of self-aggrandizing to really be more than just a decent children's film. Hoffman is pretty good, and some scenes do have the colourful whimsy the film is going for, but most are just too bland to be wondrous for anyone other than children. just

a solid kids movie; magical and wonderous, and has an excellent young actor. the problem is i'm not a kid anymore and to an adult it is lacking.

Kids will eat it up, but overall it's a mediocre attempt at a children's movie.

Dustin Hoffman is charming but Natalie Portman's inability to show any warmth keeps the viewer from really getting into the mood the film is meant to project.

Helm's directorial debut follows up his much-loved screenwriting effort Stranger Than Fiction with a film that's equally imaginative if not quite as deeply felt. The film is fairly charming and sweet, even if it does suffer from the dual dilemma of a little too much forced whimsy and a plot structure that settles into overly familiar patterns. The film also offers up another instance of Hoffman, the famously dedicated devotee of the craft of acting, just flat out having fun with a performance.

Whimsical, and a good children's movie. Predictable plot, but a strong message for the youngins. I liked Hoffman, Mills, and Bateman, could have done without Portman. P.S. her conducting SUCKS

Goofy is probably the best compliment I can give this. Most of the time it's just obnoxious and infantile with Hoffman giving a few moments of worth.

This movie is so disgustingly charming, it'll make you giggle until you vomit. Portman, Hoffman, and Bateman are all fantastic, Mills is surprisingly quaint and unpretentious for a child actor, and altogether the film is - for lack of a better word - delightful. Best family movie I've seen in ages.

Pleasant but aimless fantasy oscillates between frivolous fun and a more contemplative tone – the more serious elements work best (especially the touching exploration of mortality through Hoffman’s titular eccentric) and it’s a shame that more weight wasn’t given to Magorium rather than Portman’s “find your voice” arc, which is never quite satisfying, and ultimately arbitrary. If you want large-scale tack done well, it’s hard to beat the creatively designed interiors of the Emporium itself!

Though it seems like the actors had a good time, it's hard to imagine any audience over the age of 7 doing the same.

This one is very cute and Hoffman is absolutely lovable as the exceedingly eccentric Magorium. However, the ending is a bit rough.

A really good kids movie. It's more childish then I thought it would be. Natalie Portman is cute with short hair, she did a good job. Hoffman I thought was too silly, only kids would really find him funny, but I guess what this movie was going for. Jason Bateman just plays the same role he always does, which is good enough I guess. There is quite a lot of colors in the movie, which is nice to look it. Overall the movie was fun, but it was missing some charm that would have made it great.

Hard to dismiss entirely, largely due to Dustin Hoffman's top-notch realization of the title character; but this fuzzy fantasy is both soft-headed and offensive in its philosophy. Exactly the sort of pablum you'd expect from one of the crowd of upcoming filmmakers who were born yesterday and raised to believe that they were practically perfect in every way.

I heart Natalie Portman. MMWE is a fun easy movie that's a bit weak on the plot (very predictable) but tugs on the heart strings to provide a fun movie for all.

Kids will undoubtedly enjoy it, but bar a couple of cute scenes, there is an almost complete lack of charm here. Most of the ideas are borrowed from much better childrens movies, and the sets and CGI are unimpressive and tacky. The adult casting is not particuarly great either and most of the child actors are simply revolting little brats.

Great for kids. I loved Natalie Portman in this, even though the story is childish and simple. Zach Mills was really cute. A magic toy store run by a silly old man with a big heart (Dustin Hoffman). OK, as silly movies go, this one is at least fun to watch and feels fresh to the end. There were many parts that took a left turn from reality, but at least the movie has a good spirit throughout, remains watchable and leaves you feeling good. Parts of the CGI was too far over the top. Good music.
