Mr. Nice

Not a bad tale.

Favours hipster cool and light fun over complex characters and chaotic realism. It makes for an enjoyable but uninspiring watch.

Fun, flashy, and very transparent in its theatricality - an exaggerated, muscular adaptation of a (very likely exaggerated and biased) adaptation of a real life. Ifans is excellent, as is Thewlis. A wonderful little trippy score by Philip Glass too!

Good film, had it been given the gloss of "blow" as Mr Marks story deserves, it would have been a great film.

Thewlis' great talent has been MIA since Mike Leigh's 1993 Naked but here he delivers a caricature of British cultural audacity that is so outrageously vivid it deserves the term Dickensian.
