A highly intriguing failure I wish I could love. Nicely shot and edited. The unoriginal soundtrack was painful. Familiar plot-points also play like a "best of" compilation. The abundance of fascinating concepts (butterfly effect, parallel universes, choice vs. contingency) are merely referenced, remaining an overload of ideas touched upon yet never interestingly engaged with nor formed into a coherent argument. It feels like multiple movies in one. Unfortunately, none of them are very absorbing.

It's like Malick for the lazy! I wanted to like it, but for every effective scene there are three where Dormael is tripping over himself to appear unique & clever, but in fact just comes across as pretentiously irritating. It plays with some fascinating concepts, but its existential empiricism never manages to connect in any real way with the characters. The finest scenes are very fine indeed, but they mean little to the whole, & many of the worst scenes are the films most pivotal. Overrated.

Just like when last year I emerged from the cinema, having seen Synecdoche, New York, my mind blown, my heart ablaze, restless, incensed and in love I thought "this must be the best film ever made" - as it was with this; but more. Mr. Nobody was the best 2 and a half hours I ever spent. To quote my friend - this film works on so many levels it literally could not work on any more. Why haven't I heard of this until 2 days ago? This is a feature of staggering magnitude. I'm speechless.

Take the worst of Cloud Atlas, Benjamin Button, Many-worlds theory, and Brent Spiner playing Noonian Soong on Star Trek and you get this mess. Cut the parts of the teenage Nemo wholesale. "Nemo Nobody" are you kidding me? Why don't you just name the guy Hiro Protagonist FFS. I hope nobody is praising Leto's acting in this one though he does appear to make a good canvas for prosthetics and argyle.

Fascinating misfire. Mr. Nobody is kind of a hodgepodge of films you've seen before with really only a few truly original ideas. The soundtrack is horribly generic. I'm sorry, but "Everyday" and "Mr. Sandman" can no longer be effectively used in a movie; they're completely used up. Try something else! Nevertheless, there are a lot of interesting ideas bandied about here. It's a pretentious mess and the film starts to lose its way in the third act, but it doesn't cease to entertain.

An unrelenting barrage of pretentious bullshit made up almost entirely of shit shamelessly stolen from other films. It's like the director was working off a checklist of shots and songs that other people have already used more effectively and shoved them into this abomination of a film with only one goal. To make them all as meaningless as possible. This is the worst fucking film I have ever seen, and I saw that movie where Whoopie Goldberg is a cop in the future and her partner is a dinosaur.

A fantastic ride: Through the beautiful visuals, the emotional setup and the mere fact that you have no idea where it is going, every scene is interesting and captivating. Even if the ending feels a little rushed, it doesn't take anything away from the experience because it simply feels right.

Good. A new evolved world's oldest living mortal recalls his somewhat uneven story, uneven partly because of his hazy memory and partly due to the Director's fancy. This is a visually fantastic film with average performances made solely for critics. A strange mix that fascinates in the beginning with its unique premise but loses its charm midway through its long runtime and ends up feeling pretentious, repetitive and boring. Recommended for its visuals only.

Colorfull forrestgumpish mumbo-jumbo about a guy who was everywhere and has done everything. It has really simple message, but tries to look smart by overly complicated structure and MTV-like editing and it fails. Also - most cliche soundtrack you can imagine.

Nemo says in the introduction that it would be difficult to keep track nine dimensions. Apparently this is also the case for this very film. It starts out very interesting (and confusing) but as we move forward and the different stories unfold, with an unoriginal soundtrack, I began to loose interest. The Anna (pronounced the same backwards) story was the only one who seemed organised and the others just seemed like stuffing. But it is a beautifully shot film and that saves it from failure!

Oh my god I love this. It's really really intelligent, and really original. It's surreal, it's complicated, it does a bunch of cool little things and effects. But what catapults it beyond just "a neat little gimmicky (I'm not saying gimmicky as a bad thing) film" is the emotion. I laughed a bunch of times, but when it came down to it, the movie knew how to make me sad. Wonderful performances, an interesting story... even though I can't say with 100% authority that I understand it (I think I do).

The indie suspects are all here: Leto,Ifans,Polley. On the first look it feels like going for a Kaufmanesque idea. Why all the effort is spent on seemingly profound, in reality pseudo scientific blabber and core Hollywood messages is beyond me, this is not even a Hollywood movie. Still I didn't have a bad time with it.

Breathtaking story of life. What is time? It's full of choices. Once you choose, you cannot go back. But who'd be Nemo's Rosebud in the end? There was lots of stunning stuf: directing, acting, cinematography, special effects, and the complicate story was held in one marvelously most of time. Towards the end the plot lost it's grip and the very end was evident.

van Dormael knows what's beautiful and what's quirky, and he has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, but they don't amount to a coherent story that has a satisfiying ending. The train of thought in his mind is all over the place, and even though the multitude of stories have all heartwarming tidbids, the movie in general has a huge pacing issue which omits them all. mr. nobody is unfortunately a potential wasted, not bad by any means, but falls far from great.

An incredibly jumbled and nearly nonsensical story, exceedingly hard to understand, but also really hard not to love. So many snippets of different lives all lived by one man at the same time. It was incredibly confusing as the timelines coincide with each other. The story is complex, but full of raw emotion and tender reflections. Forget trying to understand the story because there is no traditional beginning or end. Excellent performances all around.

Incredible exploration of chance and choice. Some of these ideas have been done before, and sometimes quite well, but never have I seen such an intricate web of multiple consequences with such a wide scope, much less done as effectively as it is here where it's surprisingly easy to follow. Excellent cinematography, great style, strong performances, it has it all.

Talk about daydreaming, this film is like an exercise on making a weird film just for the sake of making it weird using and mixing a lot of different cinematic resources, that makes it a bit over the place. The performances are very uneven and I didn't like the focus on romance, it's a romance movie really which doesn't feel right with the plot. It's an interesting experience, but with execution and story problems.

Mr. Nobody is a film that you must be willing to give not only your time (it lasts well over two hours, especially if you watch the extended cut), but also your attention. You need to be willing to make the effort, and even then, it might be possible that the film will be confusing. It's certainly not for everyone, but if it sounds like your type of film, you'll have to track down a copy, as it'll be well worth the time and effort. At least, it was for me.

Kind of tedious and overwrought, especially in the middle. The "divergent lives" theme is handled in a sophomoric and too-serious fashion. There's too much stuff going on for too long. Some scenes appear to be borrowed from other films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey and Abre los Ojos. The whole thing makes me quench for a drama that plays in straight when it comes to storytelling.

Was close to perfect till the end. Beautiful cinematography, nice plot. All three relationships were intense and gripping in their own ways. The exploration of the possible paths of one life was also well processed, led me to think about the crossroads of my own life. I felt like the movie felt a bit short at the end, trying to explain the sci-fi part. Could have done without the last 15 min may be. Still no big deal as the movie is more about everything else then sci-fi.

The metaphysical subject matter is a bit difficult to get to grips with, but when you boil it down there's a coming-of-age / teenage love story which works very well, and some contemplative philosophising about life from an old man. Even if the narrative asks too much of the viewer, there are many magical and memorable scenes, and the director uses effects and camera tricks in a way which is inventive and pleasing. Good to look at and good performances from some of the cast. Refreshingly daring.

We are as much a product of our life as all the lives unlived. It's strange to find a film that so closely echoes ones thoughts on life, love, memory, et al - at least for part of the runtime. This is lovely romantic theatre, wrapped up in a nonsensical and clumsy bookend. I dearly wish that all the junky futurist parts of this film were left on the cutting room floor, and the director was more honest about exposing the urbane heart of it. Van Dormael launches an all-out attack on your senses with invigorating visuals and a captivating story. Regarding the latter, non-linear structures tend to pose a technical challenge so as to prevent a disjointed scattering of its narrative snippets, a balance which I felt the film didn't strike. Credit is still due, for pushing himself creatively and making it seem like a walk in the park and taking the kind of risks other directors could only dream of taking.
