Not a typical Hitchcock movie, this is a comedy about a couple who learn that their marriage was not valid. (imdb)

A pretty insignificant and unremarkable film not just among Hitchcock's oeuvre, but in general. It's a pretty forgettable plot that really doesn't go very far, with lame acting and a horribly campy upbeat flute theme, making it a chore at just an hour and a half. I laughed out loud once.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Carole Lombard is terrific.

Two crazy (maybe even psychotic) people in love but we never actually see them do more than declare their love for one another, so I didn't find them likeable. Raymond was a dud and didn't seem to have chemistry either. Lombard had some nice outfits. They kept leaving the cabin doors open! I'm glad the Brangelina remake added more plot and character. Fav scenes: revisiting the restaurant and being asked whether they're getting the expensive dinner; Gertrude being compared w/Florence Nightingale.

A decent screwball comedy. Has nothing to do with the Pitt/Jolie action flick.

Hitchcock having a go at Screwball Comedy!!! I found myself laughing out loud. If you have any phobia of this kind of stuff, keep away. If you think that most great comedies were made before the 50's, watch this.

Hitchcock + Screwball comedy = disaster. This film is probably Carole Lombard's worst comedy.

While the movie is quite dry throughout, it actually is quite funny. Worth more than a few giggles.

Even for a screwball comedy their behavior is pretty unrealistic, but worth a watch if you like that sort of thing.

Why? 'Romantic' 'comedy' about two people who torture each other for no reason. They seem genuinely unhappy together. The last half-hour+ is a drawn-out denouement.

Although nothing along the lines of the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", it was still a decent movie. It was over the top in ways but it was not really corny.

Hitchcock's comedy: the blacker the better. This is the exact opposite of the humour you you find in his other films. It's light, frothy, complete with jaunty little theme tune, but unfortunately it just isn't that funny. The premise is so thin that it stops making sense after about 15 minutes and none of the characters are especially likeable (fairly important in a comedy). Disappointing.

You really have to forget that Hitchcock had anything to do with it, there's nothing in it to satisfy the average Hitch fan. It's a perfectly passable little comedy, if not exactly a classic of the screwball genre. Lombard and Montgomery are terrific, but occasionally the editing choices mess up the timing.

"Some sparkling moments but this rare Hitchcock comedy farce is hit and miss."

Reasonable screwball comedy but there are more entertaining, wittier and better acted ones out there.

Absolutely charming and sexually charged screwball comedy. Robert Montgomery, in his petulance, makes for a great leading man with real chemistry with Lombard. It's so aggressive and fiery.

There's a reason Hitchcock generally did thrillers and not romcoms, I guess. This isn't awful or anything, but for a romantic comedy, it's not very funny at all and the romance is middling at best, stalkery at worst. There's nothing really that WRONG with it, per se, though it's just utterly forgettable. Purely paint by numbers romcom of the period.

It might be blamed for not being a proper Hitchcock movie but like it. I like Robert Montgomery, humor and the atmosphere of a real srewball comedy. Though it was a sheer experiment, I still gather it a good one.

I thought Montgomery and especially Lombard were a lot of fun here, but the film's central conceit feels inconsequential. Compared to the similarly-themed The Awful Truth, this suffers badly in being anything but a light and airy trifle. Fun, to be sure, but not particularly memorable.

The first real taste of Hollywood for our Alfred Hitchcock, where even the greatest directors had to direct routine comedies like this as part of their contract. Mid-range screwball with strong star-power in Carole Lombard & Robert Montgomery not managing to do more with the material than what's there in the script. Easy fun, a little flat, but with likable characters. What was clear was that Hitchcock wasn't ahead of anybody at this genre.
