Born in the Bronx and raised in upstate New York, Abel Ferrara started his professional film career on Mulberry Street in 1975. For the past year he's been living on the block, and the feast of San Gennaro is the subject of his new film. While he has used this location for a few of his features, this time it's the star of the film. (imdb)

Ferrara attempts what could loosely be called an 'ethnographic' documentary, offering us a typically shambolic view of people and place. The people are mostly old Italian-Americans, and the place is Mulberry St, whose essential character has altered due to major demographic changes. Ferrara's focus shifts between his own career and anecdotes from his subjects waxing about old times. It's watchable, but he doesn't really give us much of a reason to care about the gradual loss of this enclave.
