Nice and light even if I came into this blind and was initially confused by the format. I agree with others that Dean's acting is anemic for the role of a supposed charming town psychologist. There's also a lot of unnecessary nudity as though someone went back and added some boobs to add to the rating. Fav scene: when Dean revealed to Jason Lee that he was an imposter, that came out of nowhere for me.

Another one of my favorites. Some genius beautiful characters, and deep interesting themes.

Lawrence Kasdan loves showing spread out characters coming together despite their differences. Here, he doesn't rely on The Empire Strikes Back's sci-fi genre or the racial-political issues of Grand Canyon. Instead, this is a modern Capra-esque story of a character entering a utopian small town and upsetting the apple cart. But it's super cool to watch an antihero with a magnetic personality fix people's problems via unorthodox solutions. A great movie that illustrates the power of listening.

Making fun of our problems & hang-ups in a benign human way, the picture is fun & cute without resorting to meanness. Fanciful & pleasing.

Good characters and writing... just what you expect from Lawrence Kasdan.

Messy, ungainly character piece spreads itself far too thin over an array of studiously 'colourful' characters - everything is pitched at cheesy sitcom level comedy and dramatics, which could have worked with more rapid fire pacing. As it is, the languid, Altmanesque approach merely exposes how empty the writing is - despite the efforts of a brilliant cast of character actors; the exception is Dean, whose bland, ineffectual lead further drags the film down.

one of those muddy misfires from a talented writer-director, Lawrence Kasdan, who was indulging himself and somehow got the movie made with no stars, whch made it even harder to engage the audience.
