Rewatched. Cute slap in the face to the whodunit genre. Funny for a while but runs out of gas (unlike the nurse) by the time Capote shows up with the plot. Sellers, Falk, Brennan, Guinness, and Cromwell are all great. Others have their moments. Mostly just wanted to revisit this after watching Falk in a bunch of Columbo episodes.

This movie does to mysteries what Scary Movie did to horrors, but 25 years earlier. The consequence of this is that to fully appreciate the humour, you need to be familiar with the genre. It's still extremely humourous, and I don't think I've ever laughed at a movie this old, as much as I did. I usually find older comedies a waste of my time. I really appreciated the final act

Fun parody of all the whodunit films and their tropes. The house could have been used more but instead we're mostly stuck in the study or the dining room. The Charlie Chan jokes were great. The whole film did repeat jokes quite a bit and run out of steam until the end though. Fav scene: Wang and adopted son driving to the castle.

The cast is perfect! Particularly loved the parody of powell and loy (and if you thought you'd never get to see niven make a butthole joke you thought wrong!). But everyone just shines and shines and is hilarious. Sellers embraces another funny accent, Falk seems born to play a Bogart parody. Jokes run constantly and range from cheap laughs to witty jabs.

A blueprint for Clue (even has Eileen Brennan) that's a little rougher around the edges and front-loaded with its worst gags but really kicks on once a flamboyant Truman Capote arrives. A great Sam Spade sendup and uncomfortably racy Charlie Chan caricature are constant highlights, with the Poirot guy a distant third ("I'm not a Frenchie, I'm a Belgie!!"). The ending perfectly twists the two genres together by drawing laughter from the mystery overload and lingering intrigue from the final joke.
