It's a competent mystery thriller. Yes, Sandra Bullock and the B-plot bring a sometimes silly sheen to this, which occasionally draws you out of the movie, but the procedural elements are engaging, and the chemistry between the two killers is electric.

Mildly amusing and clever, although Bullock’s character is a relatively unlikeable protagonist. I was entertained for most of it, the weakest parts are the out of nowhere baboon and the oddly cheesy feeling I got from the abandoned house (the exterior shots felt like they used a green screen or something). The climax was pretty entertaining even if it wasn’t “good”.

This could have been so much better. Bullock is miscast for this role, and you can see that two young Pitt and Gosling have the beginnings of much better stuff to come.

Gosling and Pitt put some life into their characters, though sadly don't get to make out. Bullock is a crumbling piece of wood, which rather fittingly is where one of her final scenes takes place. The "perfect" crime and police work involved is all quite laughable and the whole movie would've been better if it chose to not "unravel" things in such a pedestrian way and instead let Gosling and Pitt's characters self-destruct on their own, perhaps in some post-coital fit of jealousy or some such.

Maybe my favorite Bullock movie (a difficult feat to achieve /s) but it will piss you off if you've ever seen 4 movies before how this ends. Such a missed opportunity! Pretty solid and always entertaining but would've been much more interesting if the writing was better and/or they actually get away with it

More like MOVIE BY NUMBERS hahahahaha oh I slay myself. Speaking of slaying, Ryan Gosling and Michael Pitt kill some poor woman in this film, and their performances as the cold-hearted killers outact Bullock's below-par performance here every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Still, while the on-screen talent is mixed, and this is no original plot, it's certainly more than fun enough to watch once.

Good chemistry between the two boys, but that's about all this film has going for it.

Amazing how much Gosling, Bullock and in some degree Pitt has grown since this... A solid but very "by the numbers" thriller that never gets exciting.

Not a bad little thriller, but for the cast it has, it didn't quite live up to its full potential. Gosling and Bullock make due with the mediocre script they had to work with and this is worth the 100 minutes if you can find them.

Frustrating at times. Like a long, drawn-out version of a Law & Order episode. Ryan Gosling & Michael Pitt are pretty good at being creepy teens though.

After seeing this movie 1 million times, it gets boring (this movie comes once or twice every year..). I guess it's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but not the best either. I do admit that ehm.. one of the actors is nice to look at

Would've been better if it scrapped Sandra Bullock's entire storyline and focused on the symbiotic relationship between Justin and Richard. The homoerotic subtext was pretty thrilling, I won't lie. You can barely call it subtext though. I was 13 watching this movie and all I kept thinking " OMG they are totally going to start making out."

While this is your standard cop who is trying to figure out the killers and thus becomes a potential victim movie, it had enough originality with the characters to be refreshing.

well the title def. fits! sandra bullock is a really bad actress and the other actors really don't do the movie justice. not a bad concept and i give them props for trying. but they pretty much failed miserably.

It's an okay mystery/suspense yarn. I gave it more points than it deserves, mostly because I like to see Sandra Bullock stretching out a little bit. She does a pretty good job with what she had to deal with. The script was fairly predictable and the pacing was slow. I wish we could have delved into her past a little less, instead just allowing us to fill in the blanks on our own.

Usual woman-in-jeapordy thriller, with Bullock as police detective investigating murders in the Leopold-Loeb vein; Gosling and Pitt are marvelous as the young killers.
