Every so often a run of the mill rom com I am fully aware is average at best catches me a certain way and I like it way more than I ever would have expected. Must Love Dogs is one of these anomalies. Don't really know why. I just had a very pleasant time.

The overriding theme of the film is that "men and women are fundamentally incompatible but somehow we muddle through." It hammers this home by presenting a gay couple whose relationship is trouble free perfection.... apart from their mother-in-law!
Uh oh!
A mother in law!
Hilarious!!!!!!!!! Mothers-in-law are universally terrible aren't they!!!

Must love Diane and Cusack - and that's a given for most - but the script isn't nearly as likeable. *Preview*: #14#, popcorn, story, cast.

Despite good work from its likable leads, the romantic comedy Must Love Dogs is too predictable.

Alright, if you're a fan of romcom's then keep this one near the bottom of the pile. Why? Because the story sucked. And I'm judging that story on its merit as a romcom, not against a Nolan action movie or something. So there's two leads with a pretty good on screen dynamic, Cusak has his slightly-spurned impish baby-face look going and Lane looks, well, nice. So you've at least got the throw them a bone (hurhur, dog pun) when it comes to the script. (The explode-y action scene sucked too)

The only thing I remember about this movie is that my parents rented it and we sat down as a family to watch a happy romcom. I was not feeling well, pulled a blanket over myself and went to sleep. about 30 minutes before the end of the film I woke up in a cold sweat with the worst fever I've ever had in my whole life. Needless to say, while 'watching' this film I was miserable.

Diane Lane and John Cusack... I feel dirty having to rate this movie. I know, it shouldn't be very good, but dammit if I can't remove my love for these two people from my evaluation of this movie. I'm not sure if 40/100 is too high or too low, so it must be right.

Cusack and Lane were good but not good together. Disposable rom-com, you know the score.

I wanted to like it because of John Cusack (I'll watch anything with him in it) and even Diane Lane (a really talented actress who was wasted in this) but in the end the preposterous plot and the painfully ridiculous clichés just couldn't save it.

Worst movie of 2005, by many measures. Everything about it is so lazy and pointless that, like Cellular the year before, it only makes sense as an advertisement (for dating service PerfectMatch.com).

Granted, I am not a huge fan of romantic comedies, but being married will introduce you to so many more movies than you'd have ever watched as a single guy. So, having said that, I certainly wouldn't choose to see this film again, but for what it was, I can't complain.

I adore this movie! Aside from the fact that the title is so great, the movie itself is sweet and funny. Plummer, Lane, and Cusack are all fantastic in their roles, and the story is well written. It's a great movie to watch multiple times.

A wonderfully crafted romantic comedy for a slightly older crowd. Gary David Goldberg, the man behind "Family Ties" brings his brand of "schmaltz" to the big screen, and it works.
