This film's refusal to take itself seriously goes a long way. So does David Warner when he gets permission to chew all the scenery in sight. I just wish it didn't have such misogynistic subplots.

Awful generic so-called comedy. No horror at all... and the romance aspect is plastic.

I agree that it's similar in style to Monster Squad, and I do like Monster Squad. But this movie is also kind of scatterbrained, as the main character and his buddy try to investigate the "bad guys," get chased by them, and pick up chicks in every other scene...and they fail at everything. So do the bad guys. And it's not really funny. I liked the vibe, I liked RSL's buddy, and I always enjoy David Warner, though I felt kind of sorry for him for being in this.

Just watched this the other day and found out its soon to be released on DVD. Its a fun little movie, similar in style and camp to The Monster Squad and I mean that in the very best way possible. If movie studios are going to release PG and PG-13 crap, they should pay close attention to films like this instead of trying to force stuff like Twilight in our faces. MBFIAV takes the mythos, keeps it mostly intact, and puts a lighthearted spin on the whole thing. Like a Fright Night for the family.

It's a pretty typical 80s teen movie, but with vampires. It doesn't really take itself seriously (I can't imagine the movie being a modicum of success if it did), and it's nice to go back and see Robert Sean Leonard pre-House. Overall, pretty decent if you like cheesy 80s movies.
